Szokolya is a picturesque village situated in the centre of the Börzsöny Mountain Range where Saxon miners were settled down in the Middle Ages. Mining and iron smelting were practised for centuries, the golden age was between 1778-1792. Sights: Calvinist church with a Gothic tower (15th century, rebuilt in 1858), with the ground wall of the former ossuary and the contours of the medieval wall around the church • memorial rooms of the famous portrait-painter Ádám Mányoki (1673-1757), who was born in Szokolya, and János Viski (1891-1987) artist Programmes: educational centre of the Management of the Danube-lpoly National Park • Kacár Farm: presentation of traditional peasant lifestyle and folk trades Nagymaros - with Visegrád across The pointed arch ceiling of the front door of the church From the jetty there have been scheduled boat trips since 1863.There used to be a market-boat car­rying fruit from Nagymaros to Vienna. The produce was put on board in the evening and the following morning it was already being sold on “Naschmarkt”. Between 1715-1735 Roman Catholic German set­tlers arrived at Nagymaros. The population lived on grape-and fruit-growing and trade. The opening of the railway made new prospects for development available for the settlement, which became one of the holiday resort places visited by "weekenders". There is a ferry crossing between Nagymaros and Visegrád that is situated on the opposite side of the Danube. Regular service was started in 1890 with a ferry boat called Buda.
