There is an impressive Baroque building painted in a special colour by the main road crossing the town (Dr Csányi László Avenue). It is called the Red House. It was built in 1731 and for more than two centuries it served as the granary of the bishopric: large part of the building was occupied by cart-sheds, stables and barns, but there were a few flats for employees as well. Local tradition has it that the unusual colouring of the building was due to the Neapolitan building masters who were employed by Bishop Frigyes M. Althann who also had the title of Neapolitan viceroy. The building was renovated some years ago by the leaseholder, who was awarded the Podmaniczky Prize for his work.
