SIGHTSEEING 201 The ruins of the Castle have disappeared, even its former existence has nearly been forgotten. A century ago Ignác Tragor compiled a book on the material that had been collected in the castle area up until that time. Since then this knowledge has expanded: as a result of some construction work in the last quarter of the 20th century and the systematic excavations, and thanks to the reconstruction of the castle wall, we have learnt a good deal about the castle itself. The castle wall with the canon ledge, which can be clearly seen on contemporary depictions, has been reconstructed on the waterfront. We can also find the original stairs leading down to the river next to it. Since 2000 the statue of King Géza I has been on top parapet: according to the Illustrated Chronicle he was buried in the cathedral here in 1077. The square in what was the central point of the castle, bears the name of King Géza as well as the school situated there. In the school garden we can still see the ruins of the The statue of King Géza I on the castle wall, made by János Blaskó tower that used to guard the entrance to the castle. Next to the school is the monument called Warriors of the Frontiers castle by István Kiss. The Franciscan Church is commonly known as the church of the friars, its official name is Finding of the Holy Cross. The Franciscan friars, who had obtained permission and premises from the first Bishop Althann, arrived at the ruinous castle in 1719. Since the bishop led the first monks into the small building assigned for them on the day of the Finding of the Holy Cross, this day was chosen as the official name of the church. The church and the monastery were built in several stages between 1721 and 1766. The chancel was put into use as early as 1726, together with the frontal wing of the monastery. It took over a decade to build the tower and the rest of the monastery. The nave was completed in the middle of the century, and the whole, threeaisled church was consecrated in 1766. k><x><x><xx>o<xx><xxxxxxxx>c>^ The Castle seen from the Danube I
