The Hungarian Student, 1957 (1. évfolyam, 2-8. szám)
1957 / 4. szám
22 The Hungarian Student in the years ahead may well determine whether other of your fellow countrymen and perhaps other students from Eastern European countries may have similar opportunities. You are a new experience for us, just as we are for you. With almost no advance notice we have tried to build a program for you. I believe that the people and the students in the colleges of the United States are prepared to welcome additional refugees, but what you do on the campus may well influence the future decision in this matter. On behalf of the Institute, and I’m sure I can speak for all of the other organizations who cooperated in this program, we wish you the best in the years ahead. We are sure that you will measure up to the challenge.” Harold C. Bakken, President, USNSA: “I wish to extend greetings to the Congress and to express the firm hope that all the Hungarian students will find study possibilities for the coming year. I have noted the friendly relations which have existed thus far between USNSA and AHSUS and am looking forward to continued good relations. USNSA had a representative in Vienna on November 11th who, with the representatives of thirteen other national unions of students, formed the Coordinating Committee for International Student Relief for Hungarian Students, and involved World University Service in that Committee. I wish further to express my interest in the successful program of World University Service, of which USNSA is one of five sponsoring organizations. All students, throughout the world, have common ties and a common interest in preserving free inquiry and academic integrity wherever their university is found.” Harold Bakken Gabor Bodner Roger Bull Rev.
