The Hungarian Student 7 MGS TO THE CONGRESS... Another part of the Exhibition. ___May I take this opportunity ... to reaffirm our admiration for your independence of spirit and for your leading role in the courageous revolution against Soviet Imperialism which rocked the world last October. The Soviet masters have deprived your countrymen of their freedom, subjected them to barbaric tortures, and, as we all too well know, deported your fellow students to an uncertain fate in Siberia in an attempt to force Hungarians to accept a creed destructive and subversive of their tradition. That their attempts have not succeeded and can never succeed is attested by the heroic resistance of your countrymen at home and by the numerous escapees who prefer the hardships of exile to the base existence of communism in their beloved homeland. This Congress is further attestation of the vigor and dedication of free Hungarian youth.... Sincerely yours, Bernard Yarrow Vice President Free Europe Committee, Inc. Dear friends, we wish to express our deepest sympathy and admiration for your courage fighting our common enemy. Let us hope light will conquer the dark and our countries will be free again. Sincerely yours, J. Karklys Lithuanian Student Association, USA .... Would you kindly convey to the delegates my best wishes for the success of this new organization. I am confident that the Association’s activities will keep alive the courage and determination for freedom that inspired students to revolt against Communist tyranny. At the same time, the organization should be able to help students become better acquainted with the way of life they are following in the United States. It is, of course, our hope that some c!ay in the not too distant future members of this Association will return to Hungary to re-establish freedom, decency and morality in governmental affairs of this great nation. . .. Sincerely yours, William E. McManus Assistant Director, Department of Education, National Catholic Welfare Conference Visitors at the Exhibition Publication Shelf. May I take this opportunity to thank you as well as the Association of Hungarian Students in the U.S. for your kind reception and the many courtesies extended to me during your first Congress in Chicago. You should be complimented for the organization and above all for the tone and spirit of the proceedings at the Congress. It was a privilege and a pleasure to be among you. Sincerely yours, Andre Varchaver Research Project on Hungary Columbia University “Finally, Freedom of the Press!” Some free revolutionary newspapers. .... Our organization is so happy now to have 55 Hungarian refugee students in its care. As the situation for Hungarian students in Austria and Yugoslavia is very serious we feel the need to take more of them here to Norway as far as our economic resources allow us to. We are in these days preparing a transfer from Yugoslavia to Norway of 10-15 Hungarian students; the number is not very big, but we hope our initiative shall inspire other more wealthy student unions to quick and efficient actions....
