NEWS IN BRIEF More on Congressman ERNEST KÖNNYŰ (In last issue, we reported the election of ERNEST KÖNNYŰ to Congress from California.) Congressman Könnyű, born in Hungary, immigrated to Missouri in 1949 at age of twelve with his parents, Prof, and Mrs. László Könnyű. In 1963 he won an Air Force scholarship to Ohio State University, where he graduated in 1965 with a degree in Accounting. During his active duty in the U.S. Air Force, he rose from Airman Basic to Captain, and in the Reserves he was promoted to Major. At National Semiconductor, one of America’s largest electronics firms, he worked his way up from an auditor to become Chief Internal Auditor with a worldwide staff. In 1980, Könnyű won a tough primary and general election for a seat in the California State Assembly. During six bury years, he rose to become the Chairman for Policy of the Assembly Republican Caucus. His state leadership propelled him to a victory in the 1986 Congressional elections, where he succeeded Ed Zschau in California’s 12th Congressional District. In Congress, he was elected to membership on the Republican Policy Committee. Congressman Könnyű and Mrs. Könnyű have 3 daughters.______________________________ With the morality of the people in the United States at a low point and getting worse, both the Federal and State of government levels are urging people to return to the moral values of our forefathers.
