In Memóriám Challenger A new Hungarian stamp is the souvenir sheet called “In Memóriám Challenger" It is the first stamp issued abroad to commemorate the loss of the Challenger crew. YOLANDA BERNHARDT, of Omaha, Nebraska, takes pride in her American home and her Hungarian roots. “I love my countries”, Mrs. Bernhardt, 87, said with a smile and a heavy Hungarian accent. So when Hungary issued a stamp honoring the U.S. astronauts, who died aboard the space shuttle Challenger, it seemed fitting to her Hungarian relatives that one of the limited-issue stamps should be sent to Mrs. Bernhardt’s Omaha home. The names of the seven killed are printed to the left of the shuttle and just above a funeral wreath. “In Memorial Challenger” is embossed in gold and black in the lower left corner of the'postcard. The stamp is numbered and postmarked in Budapest, capital of Hungary. Mrs. Bernhardt, who as a chiefly self-taught artist has won several prizes for her water color paintings, said she was impressed with the stamp’s artwork, painted by Paul Varga. Mrs. Bernhardt said the stamp is good for about 50 cents Hungarian postage, but it is worth much more to her and those like her niece, Dr. Ruda Istvánnej who stood in line for several hours in waiting to purchase the stamp. “It is very special to me,” she said, “It’s a treasure.” Page 6 3 color BUMPER STICKERS with the words: “Hungarian Eighth Tribe—Hungarian Americans” — are now available.
