Its members (reading from left to right) are Attila Falvay Tamas Szabó, Gabor Fias, and Janos Devich. r' FOLKLORE CENTRUM SCHEDULES CONCERTS BY KODÁLY QUARTET The American-Hungarian Folklore Centrum, which alos sponsors the Hungarian Folk Museum in Passaic, has recently announced two fundraising concerts by the world famous Kodály String Quartet for the benefit of the Hungarian Folk Museum. The first concert will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday afternoon, November 17th, at the Carnegie Recital Hall, 157 West 57th Street, in New York City. The performance will be followed by a reception at the Galdy Galleries, 19 East 71st Street. Tickets for this fundraiser are $10.00, $15.00, or $50.00 including participation in the reception (for more details or reservations, call 201-836-4869). The second concert, featuring an art October-November, 1984 exhibit by the Hungarian Folk Museum, will be held on Sunday, November 18th, at Seton Hall University in West Orange (for more details or reservations, call 201-763-4929, Dr. Julius Zsako). ONE OF EUROPE’S FINEST QUARTETS One of Europe’s finest string quartets, the Kodály Quartet will be touring the U.S. for the second time this fedi. Named for the renowned Hungarian composer and pedagogue Zoltán Kodály, the Quartet’s first tour, two years ago. coincided with and celebrated the centenary of the composer’s birth. It was a critical and popular success. Formed by four prize-winning students at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, the Quartet was coached in its early years by Joseph Szigeti and by Bartók expert, András Mihály. Since then, the Quartet has won many coveted prizes. Its members are Attila Falvay, Tamas Szabó, Gabor Fias, and Janos Devich. WORLDWIDE TRAVELLERS The Kodály Quartet has travelled far and wide on tours of the U.S., Australia, the Far East, and the Soviet Union. They have appeared at the Bergen Festival in Norway, the Besancon Festival in France, and at the Salzburg Festival in Austria. Their most recent trip took them to Warsaw and Gdansk in Poland. Following their American tour in 1982, the Quartet visited China and Japan, becoming the first such ensemble from Hungary to visit China in almost twenty years. The past season has seen them in Latin America - Argentina, Brazil, Columbia - and in France. Page 7
