The Eighth Hungarian Tribe, 1984 (11. évfolyam, 1-12. szám)

1984-01-01 / 1. szám

The 4th Annual Club Pool Championship Tournament was an event which attracted a great deal of interest among the membership, both men and women. At its conclusion, a “BIG GALA NITE” was held and, during which, trophies were awarded to the winners in the men’s and women’s divisions. As a direct result of the widespread interest generated by this tournament, an Inter-Club Tournament was organized with the American-Hungarian Citizens Club of Woodbridge and the Budapest Cafe (Perth Amboy). This competition, between five-man teams, was also successful and greatly helped to foster good relations between all the participants. This year’s tournament is already underway and, it is hoped, another Inter-Club Tournament will also be held. The Ladies Auxiliary, which was organized in 1982, has now become a permanent fixture in the club and their contribution towards making it the one to join as an Active Member and the club to go to in order to spend a pleasant evening among fellow American-Hungarians has been considerable. The ladies are now planning more trips down to Atlantic City, a Sunday- Brunch get-together at least once a month, and many other activities. The club’s famous American- Hungarian Theatrical Group not only completed a successful season, but is also hard at work rehearsing a new play with which to open up the 1984 season. The script and music for a well known operetta has been “imported” by hand-delivery from Budapest, edited by Joseph Bodnar, the troupe’s Producer and Director, and the show will go on in the near future. The origins of this troupe date back to the 1930’s and, since its reformation, it has presented performances in such New Jersey cities as Perth Amboy, Passaic, and elsewhere, including New York City. This troupe is the only one of its kind in New Jersey and, as far as can be determined, the only one of its kind in America. The membership of the club increased last year and, it is anticipated, it will continue to increase this year. This growth is attributable to the ongoing activities of the club, its club house facility, and the fact that the club is bi-lingual (English and Hungarian). Conseequently, there is no language barrier. Moreover, membership is open to non-Hungarian spouses of members either born in Hungary or in the United States. However, all members must have proof of Hungarian lineage or a connection with it through marriage. This lenient requirement, of course, makes it possible for young American-Hungarians to become members also. Membership dues are only $15.00 a year. The address of the club is listed in the Club Directory. The following lists the activities scheduled for 1984 by the club: January 29: Operetta Performance February 18: Valentine Day Dinner-Dance (Hungária Orchestra) March 11: Historical Commemoration and Luncheon March 17: Violet Ball (Hungária Orchestra) April 28: A Night in Budapest (Hungária Orchestra) May 12 or 20: Stage Performance June 17: Picnic (Hungária Orchestra) August 12: Family Picnic for Members September 16: Hungarian Heritage Day (Hungária Orchestra) October 13: Grape Festival Ball (Hungária Orchestra) October 21: Historical Commemoration and Luncheon November 17: Thanksgiving Day Dinner-Dance (Hungária Orchestra) December 14: Members Christmas Party December 16: Children’s Christmas Party December 31: New Year’s Eve Dinner-Dance (Hungária Orchestra) Support “The Eighth Hungarian Tribe” Magazine with your Subscription and Readership $15.00 Make check or Money Order payable to the Bethlen Press and mail to: Bethlen Press c/o P.O.
