Page 2 THE EIGHTH TRIBE June, 1980 DEDICATION This magazine is dedicated to the Eighth Tribe in America, descendants of the original Seven Magyar Tribes. IFhatever their faith, their familiarity with their ancestral language, or their degree of Hungarian ancestry, we address ourselves to each of them. If this reading is your first acquaintance with "THE EIGHTH TRIBE”, we hope you find it informative and enjoyable and that in time you will become one of our regular subscribers. THE EDITOR’S CORNER We welcome the members of the thirty-first Convention of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America to Ligonier, Pa. on June 23. As a member and one who cares about the future of the HRFA I hope and pray that the members will make the right decisions to assure the future of this organization. Your deliberation should include the utilization of this magazine for the benefit of the HRFA and all organizations of the American Hungarians. Each family belonging to the HRFA should receive this magazine. It would be a good investment for the future. Your support of the Eighth Tribe Foundaton also needs consideration. The future of the HRFA, our churches and other Hungarian organizations is no longer a matter to be taken lightly—it is a serious matter. DONATION TO THE EIGHTH TRIBE FOUNDATION P. O. Box 637, Ligonier, Pa. 15658 Enclosed is my (our) donation toward the establishment of a Hungarian Cultural Institute in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. «........................................................................-................. Name ................................................................................... (Husband and wife, please use first names) Address ..................................................................................... All donations will be published monthly in the EIGHTH TRIBE. All donations will be refunded if our goal is not realized. The Eighth Tribe readership as a family shares in each other’s joy, sadness and sorrow. We are extending the deepest sympathy to Mrs. Anna De Pohr, nee Temesváry (whose poems enriched the pages of this magazine many times) on the death of her husband, Dr. Paul De Pohr. He died on April 24, 1980, in St. Petersburg, Florida. (Memorial announcement in the Hungarian Section.) This editor has been called an Idealist many times. He considers himself a “Positivist,” — believing that this magazine could succeed and The Hungarian Cultural Institute can be a reality. To achieve this there is a need for hundreds, thousands of men and women like Louis L. Ambrose of Chicago, Illinois, to stand up in their societies and churches to urge their fellow members, friends, and relatives to support this magazine and the Eighth Tribe Foundation. It has to be an individual crusade. The opposition will come from the most unexpected source. The Eighth Tribe is published by the Bethlen Press because we feel it is our obligation to do something, hoping that all those who were talking with enthusiasm about a paper like this through many years will be our greatest supporters. However, as usual, all that energy was wasted—for when the time came for action all withdrew into their shells. The only thing this magazine received was criticism for this and that. This magazine, like any other magazine, has typographical errors. For all these critics’ information, this magazine does not give livelihood to this editor, or anyone connected with it. The amount from the subscription just covers the expenses for paper and postage, as some of the readers who have visited us have found out for themselves. The most astonishing frustration is the lack of support toward this magazine from our leading personalities. It is not your criticism, but your support this magazine needs. It is not our fault that the Eighth Tribe became not only a national, but a world-wide publication THE EIGHTH TRIBE Editor ........................................................ Sándor E.
