I am a second generation Hungarian born in Nyírbátor Szabolcs Megye in 1908, emigrated with my mother at the age of 2 to America. Your magazine is an answer to all of us of Hungarian descent who love and hunger for knowledge of their heritage. I am a self-taught reader of Hungarian with help from my parents in the different vowel sounds. However your English articles are wonderful for those who do not read Hungarian. Some months ago you wrote that many Hungarians today are not interested in their ancestry as I suppose they then would not be true Americans and not always the younger people but I know of some in my own generation. How sad and mistaken they are. To speak 2 languages and know your national family tree! You have nothing to be ashamed of except your own disinterest in your wonderful Hungarian Heritage. As far back as the American Revolution there were heroes involved in American History who were Hungarians. Now doesn’t that make you proud to be a Hungarian-American? I happen to be the aunt of Suzi Quatro, guest star of Happy Days T.V. However she is also known as the Rock Queen of England, Japan and the continent. Did you know her mother is Hungarian? Namely Szaniszlai Ilona. And Suzi is proud of her Hungarian heritage. She gave performances in Pécs, Budapest, and Nyíregyház. She will return again as she loves the people. She tried via the press in Budapest to find her cousins but was unsuccessful. She did find an uncle of mine, 92 years of age, in Nyircsákoly. So young American-Hungarians, don’t be ashamed of your ancestry! If it is a treasure to one of your own generation and culture, namely a Rock Queen (and she’s no square) neither will you be. If you read the Eighth Tribe you will be amazed at the names of famous Hungarians in this country — scientists, educators, industrialists and professionals respected by the whole world and they are part of what you are. Descendants of Hungarians! Read the Eighth Tribe, you’ll like it! Enclosed is $20.00 for the Eighth Tribe Foundation. Success to your publication. Sincerely yours in Hungarian Brotherhood, Mrs. Isabelle (Szaniszlai) Munson Dearborn, Michigan The Eighth Tribe Gentlemen: I am enclosing two checks: one for $8.00 is for the renewal of my subscription for the 1980 Eighth Tribe. The second check for $25.00 is for my donation to the Eighth Tribe Foundation. May it be but the beginning of an avalanche of other contributions! Yours truly, James E. Matyi Redondo Beach, CA 90277 Krisztus Urunknak Áldott Születésén (Rhythmic-version) This blessed day when Christ, our Savior was born, We will sing praises like the angels that morn, Who o'er the fields of Bethlehem were winging, Joyfully singing: “Glory to God be in the highest heaven! Goodwill to all men, peace on earth be given,” Goodwill to every tribe and every nation And generation! In Bethlehem, in David’s noble city, Jesus, the Christ-child, born to Virgin Mary Brought happiness to all of Adam’s children, Great joy to all men! Now He has come for Whom the fathers waited! Three holy kings are seeking the Anointed! This was foreseen by many prophets of old! All this was foretold! Lord Jesus is our true anointed Savior, Who will from all our sins and grief deliver! Joyful in heaven we will live forever, Praise our Redeemer! Translated by Mrs. Julianna Toth
