May, 1978 THE EIGHTH TRIBE Page 3 With love and admiration THIS IS A MOTHER A Virtuous mother that cares enough Is like a jewel true, priceless. Helps the mental and spiritual growth By her Wisdom, Kindness, and Caress. This Is A Mother She has an added gift untold Because in her trust children grow. She’s a special person above gold By her children you will know. This Is A Mother Her Husband sings her a refrain Her children will call her blessed. Favour’s deceitful, beauty is vain But Mothers that fear God are praised. This Is A Mother. SÁNDOR PETŐFI: Plans That Went Up In Smoke Füstbement terv All the way — towards home — I thought: How shall I address My long unseen mother? What shall I say, at first, to her, That is warm and nice, As she stretches out to me The arm that rocked my cradle? And into my mind endlessly came Nicer and nicer thoughts, Until time seemed to stand still Although the wagon did run. I stooped into the little room . . . My mother flew towards me . . . And to her lips I hung . . . wordless . . . As the fruit on the tree. Dunavecse, April, 1844 Translated by: Frank Szörny Introducing: MOLLIE E. C. WEBSTER Last month we introduced Marina Polvay to our readers and presented her article “Hungarian Cookery”. At this time we have the pleasure of introducing another internationally well known magazine writer and T.V. personality Mollie E. C. Webster and to include her article “A Hungarian Riding Tour” for the enjoyment of our readers in this issue. Although she is not a Hungarian, after reading her article you will understand why she became an admirer of the Hungarian People. Bom in Suffolk, England she attended the London and Cambridge Universities and the English Gorden Bleu. She played tennis representing Suffolk. In 1968 she married Daniel E. Webster. In England she also worked as a T.V. announcer, and since 1972 she has been working as a free lance writer. Her articles have appeared in many well known magazines. She is particularly interested in cooking and travel and spends each day learning and writing about these subjects. • • She has graciously agreed to be listed among the contributing editors. We hope she will have more articles which might interest our readers. “A Hungarian Riding Tour” is reprinted by the permission of Gourmet magazine.
