Page 12 THE EIGHTH TRIBE March, 1978 BAKE-OFF AT ST. ANN’S HUNGARIAN CHURCH HAZELWOOD, PA. On the 10th of Decemher a baking contest was held at St. Ann’s Hungarian Church. Over fifty Hungarian housewives entered the contest and they baked 70 different types of Hun­garian cakes and cookies. Judges were: Dr. Louis Szatmáry (the owner of Chicagb’s famous restaurant, “The Bakery”), Mrs. Veronica Volpe, and Mr. George Smith. First among the nine winners was Mrs. András Szabó, who baked her “Poppyseed Torte” from Mrs. Margaret Beky’s “My Mother’s Hungarian Cook­book”, printed by the Bethlen Press. (The prize winning recipe is on page 39.) Dr. Szatmáry donated one hundred copies of his cookbook to the Church. Every contestant received a cookbook and a diploma. The evening was a great success.
