Page 2 THE EIGHTH TRIBE September, 1978 DEDICATION This magazine is dedicated to the Eighth Tribe in America, descendants of the original Seven Magyar Tribes. Whatever their faith, their familiarity with their ancestral language, or their degree of Hungarian ancestry, we address ourselves to each of them. If this reading is your first acquaintance with “THE EIGHTH TRIBE’, we hope you find it informative and enjoyable and that in time you will become of our regular subscribers. THE EDITOR’S CORNER More on . . . BETHLEN CULTURAL INSTITUTE The preservation of the American Hungarian Heritage The following letter was sent on September 4, 1978 to the Board of the Bethlen Home. Ligonier, Pa. 15658 Dear Mr. President: On behalf of the Eighth Tribe Foundation I request a six months Option-to-buy the Orphanage building complex from the Board of the Bethlen Home. Box 637, Ligonier, Pa. 15658 Enclosed is my (our) donation toward the establishment of a Hungarian Cultural Institute in Ligonier, Pa. « ........................................................................................... Name ......................................................................................... (Husband and wife, please use first names) Address ..................................................................................................................... All donations will be refunded if our goal is not realized. The Eighth Tribe Foundation’s aim is to save the Bethlen Home Orphanage building for the American Hungarians. As a Cultural Institute, it will provide a place for our descendants of future generations to absorb the presently over thousand of years of Heritage of the Hungarian Nation and the 200 years of the American Hungarian historical facts in the United States. Because the building will continue to serve the American Hungarians, and will provide a place for Conferences for our Church and Fraternal Societies membership we ask that the selling price be held to the present mortgage on the building or close to that amount. Respectfully yours, Sándor E. Chomos for the Eighth Tribe Foundation Here is a quote from the July issue to refresh your memory: Now let me turn to the subject you touched upon in the June issue: Bethlen Cultural Institute or whatever name be under. We all know it is needed. So let us take the big step: create an EIGHTH TRIBE FOUNDATION, let all of us donate toward this project. . . . Now a final word to all my brethren of Hungarian descent .... your task is simple . . . just dip into your pockets and donate the amount you are able. Together with God’s help we can have a “Hungarian Cultural Institute” a Monument dedicated to our forefathers. We need one person or a committee in every city to coordinate the Fund-raising and the publicity. The “Appeal” proclamation has to be distributed amongst all church members, also to appear in the local papers, to reach all, those of Hungarian ancestry, who do not belong to a Hungarian church or society. Besides individual donations, other fundraising methods should be employed. Many of our churches THE EIGHTH TRIBE Editor ............................................................ Sándor E.
