January, 1978 THE EIGHTH TRIBE Page 13 CELEBRATING THE BICENTENNIAL YEAR When St.Stephen's school children celebrated the Bi-Centennial of our country, the flags of thirteen nations represented the varied heritage of our people. Our Most Reverent Bishop John Donovan visited our church in March of 1976 to administer the sacrament of Confirmation to our school chi Idren. On May 5, 1976, our pastor, Fr. Martin Hernady, was invited to the White House for a conference with President Ford on "Ethnicity and Neighborhood Revitalization."- 15 The enduring faith and courage of the Hungarian-American people in working to preserve our community caused presidential candidate Morris Udall to praise our neighborhood in these words, "I like people who respect themselves and respect their neighborhoods, and I am glad to be here in the parking lot of St. Stephen's instead of on the Consaul Street overpass."
