In addition to the hundred members Dresent. the Reverend Ferenc Csanfordi, pastor of the Hungarian Reformed Church, Johnstown, Pa, and the Rev, Dr. David VanHorne, representing the Board of Home Mission, were present. Rev. Csanfordi explains the purpose of the meeting, namely to become officially members of the Reformed Church in the U.S.A. He mentions the deep concern and love shown by the American Reformed Mission towards the Hungarian Reformed Churches, Through their guidance and patronage other Hungarian churches were organized and churches built. Dr. David VanHorne was very pleased with the enthusiasm and sincerity of those present and being authorized by the church authorities, he declares that the TOLEDO HUNGARIAN REFORMED CHURCH is an official member of the Tiffin East Ohio Classis. The newly organized church elected as its first consistory the following members: John Nagy, president, John Jakcsy, treasurer, Julius Simon, secretary, Gabriel Bertok, auditor, Stephen Molnár and John Takacs. By June 28, 1901, the members were able to purchase the present church site for the sum of $1,225. The minutes indicate thatthere was less enthusiasm in 1902. The general working conditions - the lack of it - was one of the problems. But more than that, it was the lack of spiritual leadership. These were the days when it was almost impossible to get a Hungarian Reformed pastor. There were not enough ministers for every parish. Between 1901 and 1902 there were only four services held by visiting pastors. The consistory extended an invitation to two pastors in Hungary to come and serve the church in Toledo.
