Tuba: A proposal for the Organization for the Promotion of Hungarian Ability Amongst people of Hungarian origin there is a relatively high ratio of successful artists, scientists and businessmen. The OBJECT of the Organization for the Promotion of Hungarian Ability (OPHA), a non-profit organization, should be the further increase of this ratio through a close cooperation amongst the individuals of Hungarian origin for the purpose of serving society with high ethical standards and of advancing science, art, business, international understanding, good will, and peace. Individuals of Hungarian origin are spread all over the world which is of a considerable advantage. However, they live under various governments witli opposing views, therefore, OPHA should be and should remain a non-politically oriented organization. No member of OPHA should be allowed to express his own political views on any OPHA platform. The ORGANIZATION of OPHA should he on an international basis having national and district offices in each country, organized according to local laws but in accordance with the objective of OPHA. Both individuals and businesses may be members of OPHA. All OPHA offices should organize regular meetings with social, scientific, artistic and business features, should collect and channel information for opportunities to all members, should act as a local representative or adviser for other OPHA offices — lienee every individual or business member would have a local representative or adviser all over the world where OPHA offices exist —, would attract capital and donations, and would distribute funds according to OPHA’s objective, would ensure the fair distribution of income or profit that originates from information for opportunities and from capital investments. All members would contribute to OPHA’s operation according to their ability. In addition, there would be fixed and negotiable charges for some services. Local Offices would contribute to the cost of national operations and National Offices would contribute to the cost of international operations. Each National Office would have its regular news bulletins and there would be an exchange of national news bulletins through the International Office. There would be an OPHA sign which could be used on business letterheads, on special ties and on other places for displaying membership. Imre Kerényi Pittsburgh, Pa. Editor’s Note: The above proposal is quite parallel with the purpose set forth for the Hungarian Business Association, (HBA), see The Eighth Tribe, November, 1975, page 2. ☆ ☆ PROFESSOR KÁLMÁN MÉCS Having had a long teaching experience in the metric system in Europe, Professor Mécs became involved in continuous research in the modernized metric (SI) system, completed a special course in “Implementation of Metric Conversion” at George Washington University, Washington, D. C., and look active participation in metric associations. He is an authority on the modernized metric (SI) system. He has been working in engineering for ten years and is a professor of Mathematics at the Allegheny Campus of CCAC, teaching engineering oriented mathematics and conducting continuous research on metric conversion. Last year and this year, in his Summer Projects “Conversion to Metric System” he developed several courses for metric education. (SI Metric Workshop for: Engineers; Workshop Leaders; Elementary School Teachers; Secondary School Teachers; Parents; Homemakers.) Recently, he traveled to Europe to study metric conversion. Professor Mécs successfully conducted metric workshops and is a member of the U.S. Metric Association, the American National Metric Council and is Pennsylvania’s representative of the Association for Metric Education.
