Page 2 THE EIGHTH TRIBE November, 1976 WHAT IS THE EIGHTH TRIBE? The Hungarian Nation when entering the Carpathian Basin in the 9th century A.D. was composed of seven Magyar tribes of Scythian origin. Many hundreds years later some of the people left Hungary for a newly discovered land — and this segment became the Eighth Tribe. To those who were bom in this land, speaking or not the Hungarian language, Reformed, Lutheran, Catholic or any other faith, even if only a trace of Hungarian origin in them, to these this Magazine is dedicated. The first issue of The Eighth Tribe was published April, 1974. * * • CHANGE OF ADDRESS:— We ask our readers to send in their new addresses as soon as possible, as of now we have to pay 25 cents on each address correction to the Post Office, whether the Magazine was delivered or not. THE EIGHTH TRIBE Editor ............................................................ Sándor E. Chomos Contributing Editors: ........... Albert Wass, Joseph Széplaki, Dr. and Mrs. István S. Tuba, Steven B. Vardy, M. Takács Barboe. Published and printed monthly by the Bethlen Press, Inc. P. O. Box 637, Ligonier, Pa. 15658, U.S_A. Second Class Postage paid at Ligonier, Pa. 15658, U.S-A. Subscription: $8.00 yearly. Christmas is not only the most joyous Christian Holy Day—it is also the biggest family holiday. Members of a family might be thousands of miles away from the family homestead but for Christmas they all are heading home. Just like 2,000 years ago when Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem, to the place where their family’s roots were. In November this editor officiated on a Radio Ministry sponsored by the Protestant Churches of Western Pennsylvania. The topic was Ligonier, Bethlen Home, and Bethlen Press. Ligonier, Pa. now is an established central point—home base for thousands of Hungarian-Americans. Somehow, someway, even the U.S. Post Office is aware of the fact, for we receive letters from overseas—Bethlen Press, Ligonier U.S.A. —no state; there are many Ligoniers in the U.S.A., but for some unknown reason the letter comes to Ligonier, Pa. This magazine is going to your home from the home base of the Eighth Tribe to be a member of your household on this holiday season, representing thousands of other families who are part of the Hungarian- American community throughout the U. S. and Canada. Some of you will receive it before Christmas—some of you between Christmas and New Year, depending on the post office delivery. We at Bethlen Press and the Editorial Staff of the Eighth Tribe wish all of you a Joyous Christmas and a Prosperous New Year with God’s Blessings. Our prayer is that by next Christmas many more will receive this magazine in the growing family of The Eighth Tribe. Sándor E. Chomos editor
