R t News ctivities Bethlen Cottages "News" The residents of the Retirement Village are invited to a monthly meeting on the first Thursday of every month. Ms. Jackie Cavanaugh from the Valley Players of Ligonier was the guest speaker for January. She discussed the plays and musicals to be held this year at the Ligonier Theater. Ms. Nancy Baith from the Ligonier YMCA was the guest for February, presenting residents with an exercise program. Ms. Theresa Rohall from the Powdermill Nature Reserve will be the guest for March. Volunteers Needed for Gift Shop The Bethlen Home Gift Shop is a great asset, thanks to the current Volunteers who run the shop on a regular basis. The staff, residents, families and visitors have been very supportive of the shop and often visit daily. However, Volunteers are still needed as "extras" to help fill in when a regular Volunteer is unavailable. Various days are available, with time slots of two to four hours. Experience is not necessary. Anyone interested should contact Sherry Humbertson at 724-238-1424 or stop by the Activity/Volunteer office for further details. Blood Drive a Success On December 29, 2005, Bethlen Home sponsored its first blood drive for the American Red Cross. In the end, there were over 70 presenting donors and 57 viable donations, surpassing the donor goal. The event was held in Bethlen Home's Linden Room, with a delicious spread prepared by the Dietary staff. The American Red Cross expressed deep gratitude for Bethlen Communities' commitment to organizing the event, which drew over a dozen first-time donors. mm Irish Blessing May you always have Walls for the wind A roof for the rain Tea beside the fire Laughter to cheer you Those you love near you And all your heart might desire. Dollhouse Donated An exquisite dollhouse was donated to Bethlen Home's Activity Department by Janie Burd. Volunteer Mario "Babe" Battaglia is currently decorating the interior and exterior. Upon completion, the dollhouse will be raffled off. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Activity Department at Bethlen Home. King and Queen of Hearts Honored Sophie Sartoris and Myers Miller were named Bethlen Home's 2006 Queen and King of Hearts. Congratulations! Presents for Patients Many "Thanks" to the following donors who participated in this past year's "Presents for Patients" fundraiser at Bethlen Home and Ligonier Gardens. They were not acknowledged in our last newsletter due to receiving the donation after our newsletter deadline. Your thoughtfulness and support is greatly appreciated.
