The donations will be specifically used to renovate our courtyard. This courtyard will be named the “Samuel Willock Off Memorial Garden”. Sam’s garden will be a constant reminder of how much he meant to us. Please feel free to stop by and enjoy Sam’s Garden at your convenience. Walk Across America! The residents of Ligonier Gardens have begun their journey across America! In conjunction with our daily exercise program we have now incorporated a daily walking program. The residents have mapped their journey across America and have chosen Presque Isle, Maine as their starting point. Each lap walked around Ligonier Gardens is then calculated into miles. The first stop on their journey will be Boston, Massachusetts, where they will celebrate with a Tea Party, Boston Style. The residents will then decide where they will travel next. Of course, we will be celebrating each destination with a party - Ligonier Gardens Style!! We will keep you posted in the upcoming newsletters as to our progress. Maybe we will see you in New Orleans, Texas or California? We are also encouraging families to participate by sending postcards or letters to us that we can share with all the residents while they are walking across America! Fundraising for the American Cancer Society / Relay for Life Our fundraising is in full swing!!! In February we had a carnation sell for Valentine’s Day. We raffled off a handmade afghan in March. In April there were two fundraisers. The first was an Easter Basket, put together by Sandy Fritz, which was raffled off, and the second was a Krispy Kreme fundraiser. There is also a Suns and Moons fundraiser that will carry on till May. The Relay For Life Walk will be held May 22 - 23. If anyone would like to participate in the walk or make a donation to the American Cancer Society, please contact Julie Skovira at 724-238-3517. As of the beginning of April we have raised over $600 to donate to the American Cancer Society. Laura Marczi, from the Congregation of the Magyar Reformed Church of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, has been kind enough to help in the Suns and Moons fundraiser. We would like to thank her for her time and effort. It is greatly appreciated! And the Winner Is... The winner of the handmade afghan was Donna Whipkey, a care-giver at Ligonier Gardens. Donna then donated the afghan to resident Ed Knapfel. Then as luck would have it, Donna also was the winner of the Easter Basket. Congratulations Donna!
