It takes its name from novem, the Latin word for nine. In the early Roman calendar, November was the ninth month. Because July was named for Julius Caesar and August for Augustus Caesar, the Roman Senate offered to name the eleventh month for Tiberius Caesar. He refused modestly, saying, "What will you do if you have thirteen emperors?" The theme for the month of November is "Friendship and Giving Thanks". Here are some of the exciting things we have planned for the month: 2nd Saturday at the Movies "Sleepless in Seattle" 4th Cocktail Party 12th Dulcimer Players at 6:30 p.m. 13th Music by Kevin Selecki at 6:00 p.m. 19th Scenic Ride 28th Thanksgiving Day! If anyone would like a copy of our monthly calendar, there are always extra copies at the front Nurse's Desk. Just ask for one, and we will be happy to help you.---------------------------------------------------The wild November comes at last far' y Beneath a veil of rain. . f-The night wind blows its folds aside, f Her face is full of pain. (\-Richard Henry Stoddard- V-«*" WEATHER OR NOT November comes between autumn and winter. In the North temperate regions, the trees are bare, and the dead leaves on the earth have lost the brilliant color they had in October. Soft snow seldom hides the bareness of the fields, but the grays and browns of the landscapes are sometimes relieved by delightful days of hazy sunshine. The Anglo-Saxons referred to November as "the wind month" and sometimes "the blood month", probably because during this period they killed animals for their winter meat. November is "Giving Thanks Month" and "Peace and Harmony Month". It's the time of the year when we count our blessings; giving thanks for ourfreedom, our homes, our families, our good friends and our good food. It's also a month to encourage understanding and tolerance worldwide. November's sky is chill and drear, November's leaf is red and sear. -Sir Walter Scott-THANK YOU We would like to thank the following resident families for their monetary gifts.
