We are proud of the cleanliness of the Bethlen Home, of what we are famous in the entire Pennsylvania. Without good team work in this department, good accomplishment would not be possible. Please do not forget to thank the cleaning employees for their excellent job! The Laundry Department was never recognized sufficiently in my opinion. Without good laundry employees the entire operation could not function. Our laundry equipment and system is perfect so that our good professionally trained employees do a marvelous job keeping everybody's clothing clean, neat and our linen in wonderful shape. Let everybody thank them once for their never finished, always ready to do more, good performance. Let us once praise them and thank them for the good job they provide for the nursing and other departments, and for the residents. On the 17th we dedicate the day for the laundry employees. We would like to dedicate September 27th for our Food Service Employees. On this day residents, fellow employees and staff members will be extra nice to them and express our appreciation for their faithful, always busy, thriving for perfection services toward the best service of our residents. PERFECTING OUR AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM We are completing the central air conditioning system in the first days of August. According to the experts, if we add one unit to the upstairs North Wing at the end of the hallway, one unit for the West Wing hallway, and two smaller units on the East Wing. These two wings created serious headaches for the professionals, but finally we found a solution on how to do the installation, and the work was done in a few days. According to our guest speaker, the air conditioning works through two phases: a.) drying the air in the building, and b.) to cool the air after. If we interrupt this process with the addition of extra humidity, the performance of the units is diminished, even if they will work constantly, (which is on the long run of course impossible expectation) they will drip water on the floor creating hazard on the hallways, or may freeze up, etc. Either way will not produce the expected result. Consequently, it is of utmost importance that all windows and doors toward outside be kept closed. We could not cool the valley! The equipment and our finances would not be capable of such. We are requesting the kind collaboration of residents, families and employees. Our purpose is to cool the hallways to a comfortable 75°F with 50 to 60% of humidity. Those residents who prefer cool rooms, may open their doors toward the halls. Those of our residents (most of them) who are always cold, may regulate their room's temperature with opening and closing their doors. Through the dryer air in the home they automatically will feel cooler than in high humidity. Our guest speaker, who is an expert in air conditioning and cooling systems, called our attention, that if UV sun rays are kept out of the rooms with properly closing of windows and blinds, with little effort we can help the air conditioning. He also mentioned the unnecessary lighting of rooms. Every light bulb adds to the heat we have to cool after. We repeat our inservice at this time as mandatory teaching of everybody in the third week of August tentatively. NEW PROJECT IN THE BETHLEN HOME We noticed that some of our residents use an iron in their rooms. This creates a fire hazard, consequently it is not permitted. On the other hand, we do understand that doilies, decorative, personal items may need sometimes extra care. Some of our residents would like to care herself for a few special favorite garments, and this is understandable also. Sherry Humbertson, our Activity Director, had the bright idea to install laundering equipment, restoring the old laundry room beside the kitchen on the second floor in the Activity Room. We all welcomed the idea knowing that this will provide extra comfort for those residents who prefer doing their own laundry themselves or by their family members. To this laundry room a built in ironing board will be also available for the residents for ironing. The preparation of the room has already begun and
