UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS It’s hard to believe we’re planning summer activities already. One thing for sure, the warmer weather is most welcome after our many snowfalls this past winter. Listed below are upcoming highlights that will be held during June, July, and August. Details will be posted on bulletin boards located near each nursing station. Due to scheduling being done three months in advance, sometimes program dates have to be changed due to in-services, weather, etc. For this reason, be sure to watch the bulletin boards each week for details. If you have any questions concern­ing a program, please feel free to contact the Activity Department. As always, families are welcome to parti­cipate in any of our programs. JUNE HIGHLIGHTS Thursday, June 2nd — In honor of National Donut Day, a special breakfast treat of your favorite donuts will be passed out during your morning meal. Friday, June 3rd — Rain or shine, a trip to the local Dairy Queen can put a smile on anyone’s face. Details to be announced on the time. Thursday, June 9th — A Texas BBQ is planned for noon for the residents and staff. Families are also welcome. This is our way of kicking off the summer. A country-western dress code is planned. We hope resi­dents and staff will participate. So, everyone, find room in those tummies for some BBQ ribs and chicken. Thursday, June 16th — A shopping day is planned at Somerset’s Walmart, and lunch at one of the local establishments. Friday, June 17th — In honor of our male residents, a Father’s Day Brunch will be held at noon. A few added surprises are planned! Thursday, June 23rd — An outing to Yellow Creek Park is planned, along with a picnic lunch. Residents must be ambulatory for this outing, due to a boat ride being planned. See Sherry for details. Thursday, June 30th — June’s Birthday Party will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Solarium. Families are wel­come to participate. JULY HIGHLIGHTS Friday, July 1st — In honor of the 4th of July week­end, a cookout is planned for noontime. Friday, July 8th — In honor of National Ice Cream Month, special treats of ice cream cones will be dis­tributed during the afternoon by volunteers. à Thursday, July 14th — An outing and picnic lunch at Lynn Run State Park is planned. Times to be an­­nounced closer to the date. Thursday, July 21st — An Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social will be held in the afternoon, serving your favorite sundae. Friday, July 22nd — An outing to Ohiopyle is planned. Details to be announced. Thursday, July 28th — July’s Birthday Party will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Solarium. Families are wel­come to attend. Friday, July 29th — An afternoon treat of ice cream will be distributed. AUGUST HIGHLIGHTS Thursday, August 11th — An outing to Colonial Inn for lunch is planned, along with a ride in the country­side. Thursday, August 18th — A surprise outing is sched­uled! Won’t you take a chance? See Sherry for details. Thursday, August 25th — Ice Cream Sundae Social will be held in the afternoon. Details to be announced. Friday, July 26th — A Pig Roast will be held in the evening at 6:00 on the First Floor Patio. Rain or shine, entertainment will also be provided. Friday, August 26th — August’s Birthday Party will also be held during the afternoon, at 2:00 in the Solarium. JUNIOR VOLUNTEERS WELCOMED During the summer months, we encourage students from age 14 and up to come and volunteer here at the Bethlen Home. Volunteers will be asked to help in escorting residents to activity programs as well as participating in them. Other areas of help include: distributing water pitch­ers, visiting one on one with residents, taking them for walks and wheelchair rides, playing games, etc. Anyone interested may contact Sherry in Activities, Monday through Friday. An interview will be setupat that time.
