SONGS AROUND THE WORLD Residents recently enjoyed a musical program entitled “Songs Around The World”, performed by Judy Parker and her associate. Residents had the opportunity to participate in the program by singing, and wearing different costumes from around the world. A fun afternoon was enjoyed by all. Pictured: Judy Parker with resident Marie Seiling, dressed in a costume representing Africa. Residents Helen Paul and Blanche Demangone represent the Orient. I really like that dragon costume, Blanche!! Many “THANKS” to Activity Assistan^Ann Woodall and Volunteer Bobby Burkhart for sharing their beautiful flower gardens with our residents. They always seem to brighten up anyone’s day, and the variety of flowers are just so beautiful. We appreciate your thoughtfulness and kindness. Since many of our residents used to have flower gardens, I thought they might enjoy reading about the legend of the Chrysanthemum. THE LEGEND OF THE CHRYSANTHEMUM One of the most beautiful stories surrounding the Chrysanthemum comes from the Orient. It tells of a hermit sage who lived outside a small Oriental village during the fourteenth century. For many years, the people of the village were guided by the hermit’s wisdom and advice. One winter day, when a group of villagers came to see the sage, they discovered that the hermit had gone, but had left them a bowl of seeds with a note attached that read, “Wisdom is a glorious thing, perfection a joy to behold.” At this time, the villagers did not understand the reason for these words. Nevertheless, they took the seeds back to the village and planted them the following Spring. The old sage was never seen again, but, come Fall, hundreds of bright flowers sprang up from the seeds he had left behind. The petals of the flowers were as numerous as the hermit’s bits of wisdom, and the flowers were made to perfection. It was then the villagers realized the meaning of the hermit’s message. They came to cherish the flowers for their beauty, just as they had the sage for his wisdom. The Chrysanthemum was later named the flower of theOrient. Inthe languageof flowers, it is the symbol of perfection and long life. JMeart to ;Heart ^ ^ ^ RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE A SUCCESS Our Red Cross Blood Donor Day was a SUCCESS!
