MY GARDEN I made a garden where once were weeds; I planted tiny colored seeds Some zinnias, and some marigolds That bloom in yellow ruffled folds. And raindrop seeds of canteloupe Which came inside an envelope. They look just like the seeds you see In melons from the grocery. I chose a square of vacant ground Where toothpick grass grew all around, Beside an oak where sun shines through With speckled light rays almost blue . . . I watered it most every day, And I saw rainbows in the spray I watched and watched to see a sprout At last the leaves came rushing out. The marigolds grew lacy tall; The zinnia leaves are straight and small; The melon leaf’s a lily pad That bends its head as if it’s sad. The marigolds have opened up; The melon has a yellow cup; The zinnias are as bright as beads. I like a garden more than weeds. Administrator................................. Rev.
