Rehabilitation is defined by Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary as: “The processes of treatment and education that lead the disabled individual to attainment of maximum function, a sense of well-being, and a personally satisfying level of independence.” Any person who is impaired mentally or physically due to disease, injury, or surgery, may have the need for rehabilitation. There are four areas associated with the rehabilitation process. They are: medical, social, educational, and vocational. Medical services include the interdisciplinary treatments of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nursing, physicians, and many other allied health personnel. Social services are involved with psychological and social counseling for the disabled individual and his/herfamily. Educational and vocational areas work hand in hand. The disabled individual may need re-educated and re-trained to improve their skills to enable them to enter or re-enter the work force. Special “Thanks” to volunteer Nellie Welty for her recent “picnic” donations. The residents certainly enjoyed the chicken, etc. Special Appreciation sent out to the Margaret Hoffman family for their special treats that they sent up during National Nurses Aides’ Day and Nursing Home Week. “Thanks” to the members of the Willing Workers group from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ligonier. The ladies and the church sponsored a party with refreshments and entertainment. To the students of Fort Allen School and their instructors for a beautiful outing with our residents; the picnic and fellowship were outstanding. Special “Thanks” to all the families, friends, employees, residents and volunteers of Bethlen Home for contributing their “favorite recipes for our upcoming new cookbook”. The above areas of rehabilitation (medical, social, educational, and vocational) are just a part of the rehabilitation process. The family and friends are also a very important part of helping the disabled individual return to a satisfying level of independence and well-being. etilen JHome Administrator................................... As you recall, last year I was surprised with a male dancer and surprise party. This year, I was very much surprised again with a most generous gift certificate for Green Gables and Mountain Playhouse. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. I already used the certificates, and it was a most enjoyable evening for a friend and myself. Thank you.
