jTrom CIk Desk <®f Cfje &íratínistrawr LIGHT IN DARKNESS Isaiah 9:2-7 Advent is a season where the view of Christmas is coming more and more into focus. God's son is remembered by us as One made flesh and blood like us. In Him we see the glory and brightness of God shining into the midst of our needy and dark world. "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light!" Darkness was upon the land of Israel when Isaiah wrote these verses. The Assyrian Army was on the move. Already fallen were the northern provinces of Israel. By 732 B.C. it looked like both houses of Israel would soon fall. The people were hungry, dejected, cursing their King and cursing their God whom, they thought, had abandoned them. It was into this black despair that Isaiah proclaimed a ray of hope. Against all facts he has dared to look into the future and see the coming of a new world order, which the Messiah would establish with justice and righteousness. In our world in these last years we have seen ungodly governments fallen. We have seen nations walking in darkness oppressed, hungry and distressed, cursing their rulers. In a world where nations rattle their swords, where fear and intimidation are still existing, we believe that the Prince of Peace has established His rule. This victory is the basis of our hope. Christ's victory is stronger than any despair or any darkness. We dare to hope-- to believe that God’s government has come. He is coming down through the history of Israel. The Old Testament is a record of God's preparing the world for the coming of His Son: "In the fullness of time", heaven and earth are met and united in the event we call Christmas. Then we see God's action coming to us in the person of Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul describes this glorious event with a larger meaning: "The grace of God has appeared for the salvation of all men" (Titus 2:11). The grace of God was not locked up within the heart of God. It has broken forth! His grace has appeared for a purpose: to intervene and to participate in human affairs, and to redeem and to purify. He came because we were lost in the darkness of our sins. Thus God in His love has appeared in Jesus for our salvation to free us from the bondage of our own making. May the grace of God appear unto you during this Christmas season. from Cfjt Desk Of Cfrt Bietician By Edith Kovács The Bethlen Home's Mission We would like to share with all our readers and with the entire community, the mission statement of the Bethlen Home, our goals, objectives and philosophy to which we are committed. Our employees are also required to be familiar with our mission statement, as surveyors may ask them to explain it. The Bethlen Home operates an up to date nursing home for the aged, where the services reflect a philosophy of care inherent in all policies and practices within the healthcare administration, promoting the Christian mission of healing and care. We believe that each person is special, a unique being, created by the Almighty God, as the object of his personal love. Since life is a gift of God, the human person is worthy of respect and dignity from conception to death, and entitled to quality of care to the whole person: body, mind and soul. We believe further that the concept of "wholistic care" embraces the physical, social, psychological, spiritual and emotional needs of our residents. We believe that quality operation can be best obtained through Christian principles by providing compassionate care and services accountable in striving for excellence while adhering to professional and regulatory standards. We believe that a team approach "will promote excellence in performance, and all who render services deserve to be treated with respect, giving opportunities for professional and personal achievements, job security with fair compensation and good working conditions. We believe that human life is precious and should be preserved whenever possible, and death is the prelude to eternal life." All our work, decisions and behavior we try to taylor to our mission. Please see us through this endeavor if you are in our facility. E.K. We are renewing our Suggestion Box System. At the opposite end of the first floor nurse's station, you will find a box where you may drop your comments related to our nursing home life. This box is there for positive criticism, suggestions and good ideas, not only for the residents, but for their families and for our employees, etc. We promise to try to resolve whatever should be taken care of. E.K. Every month's first Thursday at 3 p.m., we conduct a Resident Council meeting where we serve refreshments and discuss all the latest happenings, goods and bads, solve problems or relate them for solving to the respective department heads. We read the minutes from the previous meeting to see positive outcomes of our problem solvings. Please attend our Resident Council meetings and bring your friends and families too! E.K. The Dietary Department encourages our residents to request menu items if any is wished for and was not included on the menus lately. The Suggestion Box or private conversations with the supervisors are good forums to share such ideas. Edith Kovács, Dietician From Esther Berkey and myself, we wish you a wonderful Christmas Season and a Happy New Year!
