àîtitttp ïjigliliglit Festival Of Lights Following the Bazaar, residents worked hard at preparing Christmas tree ornaments to be used on our display tree for the Festival of Lights. This was the first year that the Bethlen Home had a tree on display. The theme chosen was "Hungarian Christmas". The proceeds raised from this program benefit the Ligonier Valley Historical Society. The ornaments were beautifully painted and decorated with Hungarian designs. Foilecf wrapped candies and nuts were also added to the tree. This brought back a lot of memories to our residents on how they used to decorate their trees in their homeland. The favorite part of all was the Hungarian Doll in ethnic costume placed on top of the tree. A special outing was also planned for lunch and to go see the tree on display. A fun time was enjoyed by all. Din YOU KNOW.,... In 1990 it really became cumbersome to complete all the necessary forms required. We live each day with the hope that much of this redundant paperwork will be eliminated. I want to "Thank" all those nurses who try to help meet this challenge and push on. I would also like to say that it takes a very special nurse to work with the Geriatric patient. A unique caring quality is necessary in order to work in this field. We must always function on the premise that "Quality of Life" is just as important if not more than quantity. To these nurses who provide this special care I salute you and say "Thank You" for being my staff....my right hands. Congratulations to the following "nurses. "We think you're special". In 1990 Aide Certification was finally realized with 33 nurse's aides being "grandmothered" into certification and, later in 1990, we had 10 aides take the written and clinical test for certification with all aides passing. Therefore our record is 100%. To these special people I say congratulations for a job well done! We would also like to take this opportunity to "Thank” the Director of Nursing, Gloria Jean Short, for all her time and efforts in teaching the classes to help the Nurses Aides pass their certifications.______________________________ Anxiety Anxiety is defined as a feeling of apprehension, worry, uneasiness or dread. April is "National Anxiety Month". Everyone suffers from anxiety at some point in their lives. It is a normal reaction to that which is threatening to one's body, lifestyle, values or loved ones. Some anxiety is normal and stimulating. Excess anxiety interferes with efficient functioning of the individual. Anxiety has become a very real part of our lives recently due to the war, the economy, the responsibility of caring for elderly parents, marital problems and many other stressful situations. Everyone copes with anxiety differently. The one important thing to remember is if you are unable to cope you must seek help. Help can be obtained through your church, your local mental health unit and other support groups. You can also check your "Guide to Human Services" found in your telephone directory for "Helplines" toll free number. If you think you are suffering from severe anxiety - don't hesitate to get help. Do You Know Your Insurance Coverage? Many people especially the elderly can be reimbursed for medications by their Blue Cross or other insurances. If you have any insurance besides medicare and have not checked your coverage, call your Blue Cross office or call me at 412-238-6005. We will try to help you.
