Summer 2010 Prof. Dr. Szűcs István közgazdász szakmai körökben világszerte elismert szakember. Magyarországon a Szent István Egyetem doktori iskolájának vezetője, az MTA doktora. Számos könyvet és publikációt jelentetett meg mind magyar, mind angol nyelven. Szerény, mindenkinek segítő ember. Életének nagy hobbija a versírás. A magyar piacon már négy verseskönyve is megjelent. Verseinek magyar habitusa és nyelvi szokszínűsége méltán megérdemli, hogy a külföldön élő magyarság is előszeretettel olvassa költeménveit. A nép (Dr. Szűcs István) A nemzet él, míg él a népe, és imádni tudja Istenét. Nép az úr s a szolga is, a földműves, a hű szerető, s ha egymás gyümölcsét élvezik, megbékél a szenvedő. Grimmet— Member of Branch 31 G rowing up in America, OH, I was never far away from my Hungarian grandmother, Betty Grimmett (Kulhay). I lived down the street from her, and I could often be found by her side in the kitchen, watching and helping her make traditional Hungarian dishes such as töltött káposzta, csirkepaprikás and töltött paprika. Around the holidays, I also helped her make kiflis, bejgli and rrétes. Some of my fondest memories growing up are of me helping my grandma keep the Hungarian heritage alive in my family. I still remember some of the Hungarian songs she used to sing to me. Now that I am in college, I eagerly await going home for the holidays and eating these traditional dishes from my childhood and spending time with my family. No matter how far away I am or what I am doing, my family and heritage are always in my heart. I am currently a sophomore undergraduate student at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan, pursuing a double major in economics and mathematics. At Hillsdale, I am on the Dean’s list, a member of the Dean’s list, a member of the Honors Program, and the president of the Classical Liberal Organization. I take photos for the newspaper and other publications, and I work for the IT department. On top of this, I take a full course load, maintain a 3.59 GPA, and volunteer around the community whenever I can. My career goal is to he an economics professor at the university level. I am studying the Austrian, or Vienna, school of economics (the teachings of von Mises, Menger, Bohm Bawerk, and others), and I plan to attend graduate school in economics as soon as I finish my undergraduate studies. Though I am pursuing a career in economics, I love photography, and I spend a significant amount of my free time taking photos. I have been fortunate enough to win few competitions and even get some of my photos published. I hope to have time to travel to Hungary in the near future to photograph the lands of my ancestors. I am eager to learn more about my roots and keep these traditions strong in my family. I would like to thank my grandmother, Branch Manager Eleanor Kopp, and everyone at HRFA who helped make this generous Student Aid available to me.
