2010 Join Hands Day • • • AAA JOIN 4ÄNDh DAY it starts with us America’s Fraternal Benefit Societies MAY 1, 2010 Branch 35—Detroit, Ml It is a wonderful experience to engage in volunteer activities. As we celebrated the loth anniversary of the Join Hands Day, we were very excited to contribute to this noble cause. The weather was not cooperating with our plans, but we are used to this in Michigan. The day we originally intended to go out and work was very cold and rainy, so we needed to reschedule our project. This temporary delay did not dampen our spirits at all. A few days later when the weather turned nice, the enthusiastic members who were able came to the American Hungarian Reformed Church to accomplish all we planned for Join Hands Day. Soon enough, the fruits of our labor were visible in the neatly trimmed bushes. The remains of last year’s vegetation were cleaned up. A beautiful array of colorful flowers gave the finishing touch to the garden. When the outdoor activities came to a close, we were glad that a couple of our members stayed inside and prepared the light luncheon and fellowship. We all enjoyed a lovely time. Before the conclusion of the day in a short meeting, we decided that our Branch will once again sponsor the Bethlen Communities’ Golf outing. Katalin Varga, Branch 35 Manager Branch 134—Gr. Pittsburgh On Saturday, May 1st, 2010, Branch 134 observed Join Hands Day by beautifying the church cemetery of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Duquesne, PA. Although the group was small, a great deal of work was accomplished. Weeds were pulled, debris raked, graves cleaned and grass cut. Tree branches from a previous storm were also cleared. Those involved included Rev. Joseph Posta, Mrs. Ilona Posta, Mrs. Leona Kennedy, Mrs. Cathy Trunzo, Mr. Julius Nagy and Mr. George Cutson. After a job well done, the workers gathered at the church for a delicious lunch prepared by Mrs. Posta. The photo includes from left to right: Rev.
