HUNGARIAN FASHION WEEK - 2010 NEW YORK by Tamas Susko Preserving and cultivating Hungarian cultural heritage, linguistic origins, gastronomy and folk art has played a major role in defining the identity of American Hungarians in the United States. Beyond supporting these cultural traditions, The Hungarian Reformed Federation of America (HRFA) has continued to provide assistance to American-Hungarian organizations that help assimilate Hungarians and boost their standing both here and abroad. While continuing to play a communitydefining role over the past hundred or so years, HRFA has supported programs that feature Hungarian culture from different perspectives and delight HRFA members. Fashion is the global cultural language which is understood around the world because people from various backgrounds can relate to this genre, regardless of their ethnic, political or religious affiliations. Using this definitive medium which acts as a bridge across various cultures and energizes a vast audience, we would like to introduce the Hungarian fashion industry, its premier garment and accessory designers, and our national heritage of folk art during a Hungarian Fashion Week in New York, the U.S. fashion capital. Over thirty leading designers in Hungary whose vivid, colorful style has evolved over the years are bringing rich and creative new initiatives to the states. Their achievements are not solely based on international trends but reflect individual characteristics so they are easily recognizable and can be differentiated from influences found formerly in New York or in European markets. The collections reflect these unique qualities best as they are hand-crafted and available in limited quantities. Before and during the fashion shows and exhibitions that begin in February of 2010, there are plans for cultural and gastronomic events which will enhance the programs and benefit aspects of Hungarian education and community life. The fashion shows, exhibits and cultural programs, held in several major American cities, will be easily accessible for members of HRFA and their families and friends who are devoted to Hungarian culture. Look for further information which will be forthcoming about the upcoming fashion shows and accompanying events in your area. Join Our Team!
