Branch 198 - Ligonier, PA - Bethlen Communities On Saturday, July 25, 2009 some 85+ golfers enjoyed the annual Bethlen Communities / HRFA Golf Outing. The rain held off with only a few sprinkles. At the dinner, the late Mr. William Casner, Sr. was honored. His family was in attendance. The Annual Hungarian Picnic was held at the Picnic Pavilion on Sunday, July 26, 2009. The day began with a Chapel Service at 11 a.m. Over 200 guests enjoyed the fellowship, good food, music and the dance group from William Penn. Pat Armel, Branch 198 Manager Branch 227 - Warren, OH On May 16, 2009, the Postal Office Service in Warren, OH collected food items for the Local Food Bank to help the needy families in our area. My husband and I collected food items in our house, and we also bought some food at the grocery store to help in this worthy cause. Marge Nicholas, Branch 227 Manager; Fraternal Administrator Branch 300 - Washington, D 9¥ Captive Nations Week in Washington, DC Commemorating the 50th anniversary of Captive Nations Week, on July 22, 2009, HRFA and other ethnic communities participated in a wreath­K vXSb* Captive Nations - Branch 300 laying ceremony at the Victims of Communism Memorial. Representing the Federation were Atilla Kocsis, President of HRFA Branch 300, and Kati Levay-Nagy, Assistant to the President. Every American President, since Dwight Eisenhower has officially proclaimed “Captive Nations Week,” the third week in July, to support those nations held under Communist imperialism, and this shall continue to be issued each year until liberty and independence is achieved by all captive nations. Following the wreath-laying eremony, the gathering convened at The Heritage Foundation for a symposium entitled “The Captive Nations: Past, Present, and Future.” Panelists for the discussion included Helle Dalle, Deputy Director of the Davis Institute for International Studies at The Heritage Foundation; Dr. Lee Edwards, President of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation; and Marek Chodakiewicz, Academic Dean and Professor of History at the Institute of World Politics.
