HRFA TESTVÉRISÉG - SPONSOR A CHILD PROGRAM by Robert Kovács- Make a Difference with just $10 In 2009, the economic crisis facing America impacts the small groups that have been providing needed services to the Hungarian-American community for years. HRFA was founded as a Society dedicated to the service of immigrants to the United States and helping them to maintain their ethnic culture and identity as they make the transition to productive, patriotic citizens of our country. Some of the pillars of this community structure are the Saturday Schools around the country, often sponsored by churches that teach the Hungarian language to our children. This fragile web of schools always suffers from a lack of proper funding and facilities, yet they continue to persevere over the years. But this new situation presents a larger problem than ever before. The children who attend these schools are a mix of generations, many of them from immigrant families. These are the hardest hit by the recession. At the same time, it is these new Americans who have traditionally been the focus of the HRFA. To try to address this problem, HRFA has developed the Testvériség (Fraternity) program. This program seeks to make a lifeline across generations from those of us who are already established in this country to those who are just starting their journey. Many of these children come from upstanding families who want nothing more than to maintain their Hungarian heritage as they become Americans. But due to the financial crisis, they are unable to afford the tuition required to attend a Hungarian Language Saturday School. The Testvériség Program allows those of us who want to be able to step up and help these children in their time of need. There are two ways you can help. You can either elect to be a sustaining donor via monthly donations via your checking or credit card account, or you can make a one-time donation. You can sponsor a child for a full scholarship or a partial scholarship, whatever you feel you can afford. Our program has a very low overhead with 90% of donations going directly to students. If you make a donation to this program, you will receive a letter from the child you sponsored. Donations to this program do not go into an anonymous pit; rather they go to an individual who lets you know exactly how your donation impacted a young life. So please:- Pledge conveniently online with a credit card,- Make a recurring or a one-time gift,- Then receive a letter from the child you supported. To pledge on-line, simply visit the new HRFA website at www.hrfa.org. Find the Testvériség Program link at the bottom of the front page and use the on-line checkout to select your pledge type and level. You can also just call the Home Office at 1-888-KOSSUTH (567-7884) and make your donation. “Why Didn't I Get More Life Insurance When I Was Younger?” Now you’ve got a second chance: The revised Promotional Program is extended until December 31, 2009.
