I BRANCH NEWS BRANCH NEWS REMINDER - JOIN HANDS DAY - MAY 2, 2009 - PLAN AHEAD Save- the Pate JOIN HANDS DAY May 2,2009 BRANCH 35-Detroit, Ml As we were getting closer to the season of Christmas and the end of the year, our days were getting more and more eventful. In November, our branch Treasurer Margaret Tarkanyi in cooperation with the Martha Circle organized the traditional Holiday Card Party. This is a well liked and fun-filled gathering enjoyed by many. Although is it a great undertaking, it was a great success because she has been doing it for the past many years. Many of us branch members contributed by bringing various prizes for the raffle and helped with the enjoyable events of the afternoon. Of course, we need to mention our Branch participation in the Operation Christmas Child program. As we did in the past, we prepared boxes filled with gifts for children all around the world. But we greatly treasure our little children in our Branch also for they are the future of the HRFA. They were excited to receive the small tokens of our thoughtfulness in the form of a Christmas gift. In December occurred one other big event called Advent By Candlelight. This was a little different compared to past years. When I started to organize the event, I was thinking about how many needy people are there out in our greater communities and what we can do for them this season. I asked the guests to bring one can of non-perishable food item for those less fortunate. The members of branch 35 and the guests of the event responded well, and we collected two large boxes (about 250 lbs) of food which in turn was donated to those in need. All of us felt good about being able to provide for others while we were also ministered to and enriched. During the program with the uplifting faith- filled songs, with lyrics and music, we were reminded of what a marvelous gift God gave us and how much we need to be humble, thankful and faithful servants of His. Everyone was touched by the meaningful program. Many commented that it was an outstanding start of the Advent season. I would like to express my best wishes to all of our members for this year ahead of us. Katalin Varga, Branch Manager and Area Fraternal Coordinator BRANCH 151 - Beaver Falls, PA Operation Christmas Child - New Brighton Christian Assembly Church Oct. 15-Nov. 2, 2008 Operation Christmas Child was such a success this year. Our church participated in this special project to provide gifts to those in need. Our pastor on the first Sunday showed a film of children around the world receiving their Christmas boxes from the United States. This stirred our hearts to get involved in this project and to understand this wonderful ministry. For some children, it might be the only gift they receive. Even the ribbon that the box is wrapped in will be a keepsake for them to enjoy. The gifts in the boxes are toys, washcloths, soaps, tooth brushes, toothpaste, stuffed animals, dolls and school supplies. Our church this year provided 198 boxes. What a blessing to help those children in need. Also we did a car wash for Operation Christmas Child. Emma Decellis, Betty Petrucha, Peg Fabri, Joe Glennon, Joe Fabri and Jessalyn Desantes helped to make it happen. It took place in September on a warm Saturday, and we made $200. This money was used to buy gifts which children could use to put their own boxes together to experience helping children in need to enjoy Christmas in other countries. Helen Romesburg and I bought and organized the gifts for the boxes so the children could decide which age they wanted to address when filling the boxes. CARWASH FUNDRAISER FOR OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD On October 19, 2008, the children put the boxes together and had a lot of fun knowing it would help others. They made 36 boxes and dropped them off at a church in our area. Those who participated were HRFA members Gábriellé Maldonato, Alexandra Maldonato, Jessalyn Desantes, Alexa Desantes, Jeffrey Desantes, Haylee and Gracie Fleishman, Julie and Jeff Desantes, Jodi and Josh Fleishman and Renee and Sam Maldonato.
