BRANCH NEWS prizes for the raffle were donated by the branch members. All of us had the satisfying feeling that we did something good for the well being of others. While we were sipping our coffee and other refreshments, we talked around the table and realized this was a very nice day together of fraternal fellowship. We hope that next year even more members will join us Fraternally, Katalin Varga, Branch Manager and Area Fraternal Coordinator BRANCH 35 DETROIT, Ml Annual Picnic Members of Branch 35 held their annual picnic on Saturday 27th of September. It was a nice calm fall day. The sun was playing hide and seek with the clouds but didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the participants. Katalin Varga, Branch manager, surprised the members and cooked a “Bogrács Gulyas” for the picnic. The children were excited about the hot dog and the baked beans. But could you imagine a Hungarian picnic without dessert? Neither could we! All those delicious foods and desserts really hit the spot. But eating was not the only reason we got together. We as a branch talked about doing something worthwhile and beneficial for others. We learned that the American Hungarian Reformed Church of Allen Park is planning to purchase a Defibrillator for in-house use to save lives in case someone needs it. We held a raffle and donated the entire proceeds for that cause. The nice Toledo Birmingham Festival God blessed this Sunday with beautiful sunny weather. Lots of people were walking up and down the street. The aroma of all the different foods just hypnotized us when walking by each vendor to try their delicious creations. Of course, the Hungarian food line was the longest for a good reason - Best Food! The HRFA table was facing the main street so lots of people stopped to talk and to pick up some of our magazines and other goodies from the Home Office. They each told me a story about how long they (or their children or grandchildren) have been members of the HRFA. I would like to thank Mrs. Margaret Tarkányi, our delegate to the 2008 Convention, for helping me out at our HRFA table. Also I would like to thank my daughter and my grandchildren for coming with me to this wonderful festival and making me happy with their lively presence. They also helped with passing out some of our advertisements about what type of insurance we have to offer. All and all, we had a very good time. I also sold some tickets for the Bethlen Home for the Herend dishes that are being raffled off. We had good weather, good people, good food and music, and fantastic dancers. God Bless our HRFA.
