Reverse Chaos Youth Conference. Submitted by: Renee Maldonato, branch 151 volunteer. Location: Christian Fellowship Center of Greensburg in Jeannette, Pennsylvania We had a Youth Conference called Reverse Chaos. We invited youths grades 6-12th. The goal was to draw the community together through sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. It was an opportunity for youths to reverse the chaos in their lives. The conference was a life changing, fun-filled, friendship building opportunity. We had two bands and on Friday we served a home cooked meal to them and the leaders. We also served pizza from a local sponsor and beverages. On Saturday we served continental breakfast and lunch and ice cream that evening. We served a luncheon on Sunday to send Detour 180 (the band) off and for all the volunteers that worked together with the youth for this event. We had various speakers over the weekend. We invited everyone in the community and surrounding area. We had electives for the youth to choose from. Some of the topics were: Drugs/Alcohol-Avoiding and the downfalls, Integrity/Morality. We will be serving our community in this manner in the future. Some youths, along with several adults helped prepare a meal for the band. We had a few youths putting together the lyrics to a computer program to project the music of the bands so everyone can sing along. We had a drama performed by the young adults. The youths and adults helped clean. One of the youths, along with myself created one of the posters to promote the youth conference. This Youth Conference allowed the youths in our community to make a positive change in their life. Also, to build new friendships and serve one another. It also allowed an opportunity to have other churches to come together. Branches 227, 2 and 165 Submitted by: Margaret Nicholas, Area Fraternal Coordinator and Branch Manager Phone: 330-372-5183 Join Hands Day Location: Veterans Administration Hospital in Brecksville, Ohio Members and volunteers of Branches 227, 165 and 2 of HRFA baked, individually wrapped and delivered over 2,000 homemade cookies and distributed them among the patients of the VA Hospital both in the dining room area and the psychiatric wards. Adults and youths joined their efforts in order to direct or community's attention to the veterans by saying thanks for their sacrifice. The youths helped with wrapping and to some extent baking, too. Adults did more of the baking themselves and a small group of them took care of the delivery. This year again, by word of mouth, more and more people heard about the project and wanted to join to bring a little sunshine into the veterans’ days and say thanks to them. Youths were not allowed to enter the premises of the VA Hospital. Even the number of adults was strictly restricted. Yet everybody was excited to hear about how the veterans appreciated the cookies and how happy it made them to feel that a lot of people think appreciative about their heroism. This project has been going on for years with HRFA's branches in Ohio. We are planning on turning it into a national project for HRFA's other branches, also picking additional dates.
