Ligonier Farmers Market: Bethlen Communities had a booth at the Ligonier Fanner Market on three occasions this summer: one Saturday in July, in August and in September. We featured information on the services available at the Bethlen Communities’ different facilities, the HRFA and of course, some good Hungarian food — Palacsinta and Gulyas. We are looking forward to repeating these Saturday events next summer. Bags for Walkers/Wheelchairs: Edith Szep spent quite a bit of time cutting and sewing these special bags for our residents. They were received with great joy. Until now, many residents had only plastic bags to carry around their tissues, water bottles, books, etc. They were very pleased upon receiving the bags and hung them proudly on their walkers. 1956 Commemoration: The residents and staff of the Bethlen Communities held their 1956 program on Tuesday October 31 at Ligonier Gardens. The program included a display of pictures, books and other articles about 1956. Present were Rev. Imre Bertalan, Mr. George Dózsa, Rev. Alexander Jalso and Mr. Joe Fabri. Prayers were shared by the Reverends Csilla Toth and Joseph Posta. A very moving song from Les Miserable was shared by young Imre Bertalan. The evening was followed by a reception planned by the staff of Ligonier Gardens. They did a wonderful job preparing and serving tasty appetizers. Thanks to the hard working staff! Toledo, Ohio: Toledo held three separate events commemorating 1956. Bethlen Communities helped fund the program and the local HRFA branch also took part in the events. On Monday, October 23, which is the day the Revolution actually began, candle lighting took place along the Toledo River-front, by the Hungarian flag pole. Our branch was one of the organizations that took part and dedicated a commemorative wreath. A special mass and dinner was held at St. Stephen Catholic Church on Saturday, October 28. On November 4, a very moving program with speakers young and old, a special music and movie was held at Calvin United Church of Christ. A well attended reception was held following the program at the Hungarian Club. Lou Kozma from HRFA, Baba Ujvagi and Reverend Imre A. Bertalan represented both HRFA and the Bethlen Communities at these events. Mikulás — St. Nicholas: We assembled almost 300 Mikulás packages for our residents at our various facilities. The packages appeared at the doorway of our residents the morning of December 6 tilled with candies including szalon cukor, cookies and fruit. Our residents enjoy this unique custom. Packages are also left for our staff Edit Szep, Area Fraternal Coordinator Page 12 Fraternity - Testvériség
