Students of the Karate Club — members and would-be members Pholo: Courtesy of Masterpiece Portraits of Sarasota, FL Branch 600 15 members of Branch 600 are students of the martial arts program of the Sarasota School of Arts & Sciences. These young members are very fortunate to have a special instructor, Sensei John Garcia, who cares so much for his students that he has succeeded in being the only middle school to incorporate the martial arts class into the school’s curriculum. Sensei Garcia was instrumental in signing up his student as members of HRFA. “It was a nice way to reward the kids” Sensei said. “When Judit Zambo approached me with the idea, I thought it was something different and positive, and that the kids can give into it and get back from it at the same time.” His message to our young members is “Respect and you will be respected. Treat others the way you want to be treated.” Kati Levay-Nagy ^ Olivia R. Fedor, from branch 69, moved from Florida to Virginia this past year. Her move was more than just a temperature difference. It was also a big move from middle school to high school. Everyone who knows Olivia and her family knows that her family’s strength is that they are used to change and are very adaptable. Olivia is an honor roll student at Broad Run High School in Ashburn, VA. One extracurricular activity that Olivia enjoys and excels in is taekwando. Taekwando is a form of martial arts that originated from Korea. She has pursued her passion for taekwando since she was introduced to it in Texas four years ago. In the past two years, she has become a first degree black belt and a junior leader. She actively participates in tournaments that range from local, regional and national, and has many friends nationwide. Her most recent achievement was winning state champion in the state of Virginia placing first in forms, first in sparring, and first in weapons. She enjoys taekwando and continues to be passionate about the sport. HRFA takes special pride in recognizing Olivia Fedor for her achievements in both academics and sports. The Fedor-sisters: Olivia (L) and Silvia We are asking the branch managers, agents, area fraternal coordinators to inform us about outstanding achievements of our members in their areas. Please send reports and photos to the editors!
