Page 22 Fraternity- Testvériség study abroad during the next two years at MSU. I would love to go to Europe and visit as many countries as possible. I feel that by traveling with people 1 don’t know, I will get to know them and the cultures and customs of different countries better. Thank you all for your wonderful support in helping me to achieve my goals. Also, 1 would like to thank my grandmother, Priscilla Nagy, for informing of this scholarship and Tibor Nagy for recommending me for this scholarship.” Emily F. Jordanhazy, member of Branch 245: “I graduated from Mohawk Jr. - Sr. High School in Bessemer PA, and I’m currently a senior at Clarion University. I have a double major in Elementary and Special Education. I have always enjoyed working with children. I always wanted to become a teacher for as long as I can remember. I’ve been very fortunate to have great teachers in my life and 1 want the chance to make a difference as they did for me. It wasn’t until I went to college that 1 decided to study Special Education. I am very glad that I did. I have learned so many interesting things about different disabilities. You never know what to expect with Special Education and that’s what keeps me so interested. It takes a lot of patience and understanding but it’s well worth it to me. I have had many years of experience with children. When I was in the upper elementary grades, I helped watch children during the P.T.O. meetings. I started babysitting when I was 13 years old. During my senior year of high school, I tutored first grade at our elementary school during my study halls. 1 have tutored at one of the local elementary schools in Clarion for the past two years and am planning on doing so this year as well. I have tutored grades second through sixth at the elementary school in Clarion. I enjoyed every second of it. I also tutored in the learning support room in the elementary school, which proved to be challenging. I also volunteered to help with the Special Olympics when they were held at Clarion University. It was so much fun to see the dedication and hard work the athletes put into their events. 1 plan on volunteering again this summer. It was a great experience. I have been volunteering at my church for many years. I have done such things as Christmas programs, helping with our annual church fundraiser and volunteering as a Sunday school teacher. The church has always had a positive influence on my life. I would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Berei of Branch 245 for nominating me for this scholarship. I greatly appreciate it.” Kelly Horvath, member of Branch 176: “I am currently enrolled as a junior at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, where I am pursuing a double major in movement and sports science and psychology. I have a cumulative GPA 3.47. After graduation, I plan to enroll in a graduate program of physical therapy. Over the past year, I have volunteered in two different therapy settings. I am an active member of the Gamma Iota chapter of Delta Delta Delta fraternity. Joining this organization has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I have gotten to know over 130 wonderful girls who have helped me to grow as an individual. Together with all my “sisters,” I have taken part in many philanthropies and social activities. This organization has helped to make me a stronger, well- rounded person. In closing, I would like to thank HRFA for assisting students like me. I really appreciate this scholarship, and it will be very helpful in reducing some of the financial stresses associated with my education.” (Kelly was recommended by Branch 176 Manager, Kati Mischak) The Student Aid Fund of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America is accepting donations. As we are a tax exempt fraternal organization, the amount of your contribution is deductible from your personal income taxes. Your generous donation allows many young members of the HRFA to partake in the wonderful opportunities higher education has to offer.
