Page 19 Fraternity- Testvériség Music has been a strong part of my life since I was six years old when I began piano lessons. In third grade, I started playing the violin, in fifth grade, I took up the flute, and in ninth grade, I began studying the tuba, which is currently my primary instrument. At Westminster, I am involved in Marching and Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Brass Quintet, Opera Pit, Mu Phi Epsilon and Lambda Sigma. I also have three jobs on campus through the school’s Work Study program. I decided to become a Music Education major because of the influential role music has played throughout my life and my desire to pass that on to other people. I truly believe that you can teach students certain things through music that are not possible in any other aspect of schooling. While developing skills playing an instrument or singing, students are being taught to focus on their goals at hand, dedication, and responsibility. More importantly, they are learning all this plus the ability to express their emotions and expand their creativity through a really enjoyable activity. The members of my church have spiritually supported me my whole life. I still play the flute in church when I come home on the weekends, and it really brings smiles to their faces. I have been volunteering hundreds of hours there for at least 10 years as a dancer, baker, and Sunday school teacher, but it does not compare to the 20 years of foundation they have laid in my life. I would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Berei of Branch 245 for nominating me for this scholarship.” Reka Danko, member of Branch 259, Reno, NV: “I started my degree program in 1999 in speech pathology and as an undergraduate pre-medical student at the University of Nevada, Reno. I am a full-time student taking classes in preparation for the medical profession. Besides taking classes, I am a volunteer in the VA Hospital in Reno and a part-time teacher helping high-school students in their preparation for the college admittance tests. I will conclude my current university program next semester as an independent study abroad student visiting universities and health facilities in Ireland and Hungary. My life would not be complete without studying and practicing music. I was a youth leader in a choir several years ago, a member of a choir at the university, and a singer at the Little Flower Church last year. Occasionally, I am honored by performing as a solo singer during church ceremonies with Margaret Saltzer, a renowned organist.” Heather Joy Scott, member of Branch 259, El Cajon, CA: “I am currently a junior at Point Loma Nazarene University, located in I San Diego, CA. I am majoring in Child Development, with a minor in Psychology. My love of children deep concern for their well-being has motivated me to become an elementary school teacher. My particular interest has continued to be children with special needs, especially in the area of language and reading. In addition to being a full time student, I enjoy participating in outreach groups and mission trips, singing in the PLNU Concert Choir, as well as being employed as a teacher’s aid. Volunteerism and outreach ministries have become an integral part of who I am and what I stand for, and I plan to continue serving families and communities in need throughout my life. In particular, my compassion for Mexico’s missions has motivated me to become involved in several of our campus cross-cultural ministry groups. Whether it is working with orphans through Mexico Outreach or providing construction and repair services to needy churches through Carpenter’s Crew, I enjoy serving people and sharing God’s love with them. Throughout my life, family, faith, and education have remained the most important aspects of my life. My beloved grandparents, Bob and Betty Szabó, purchased an insurance policy through the HRFA when I was a child. As I primarily rely on grants, scholarships, and other forms of financial assistance to fund my education, I am very appreciative of the financial support offered to fraternal members. Thank you for your encouragement in my pursuit of higher education.” Welcome party for our new CFO- Mr. Leslie László Megyeri, hosted by President Torok, his wife Cindy and Mrs. Kathy Megyeri in March 2004
