Page 24 TESTVÉRISÉG Tanácsnak (AOT-nak), ami a Magyarok Világszövetségének helybeli elnevezése. Megalakítója és vezetője a Free Hungarian Reformed Church of Califor- nia-nak és az American Hungarian Aid Fund-nak. A március 30-án megtartott istentiszteleten és ünnepségen magam is részt vettem, és kántori szolgálatot is végeztem Pohoczky László, ifjú kántortestvérrel együtt. Ez alkalommal kezdődött el az ünnepségsorozat a II. Rákóczi Ferenc fejedelem által vezetett szabadságharc kezdetének 300 éves évfordulója alkalmából. Zrínyi Ilona fejedelemasszony halálának 300 éves évfordulójára ugyancsak emlékeztünk, bemutatva a kiváló honvédő asszony és a Zrínyi család önfeláldozó hazaszeretetét. Ezt követően a II. Rákóczi Ferenc által vezetett szabadságharc előzményeit, okait és kezdetét szemléltette Katona Jenő lelkipásztor. A megkezdett sorozatot május 25-én fogják folytami, amikor egy teljes műsorral és hivatásos színészekkel kívánják az ünnepség színvonalát emelni. (A meghívott színészek: Péterffy Lajos és Gaál Annamária, Nagyváradról.) Szeretettel hívják és várják az ünnepségre jelentkezőket, valamint a szintén Katona Jenő lelkipásztor által alakított Kaliforniai Magyar Bethesda Otthonban a gondozásra szoruló, idős magyar testvéreket. Gyönyörű környezetben, kiváló magyaros ellátásban, lelki és szellemi javakban részesülnek a jelenlévők. Számomra mindig felüdülés, ha a Katona család vendégszeretetét élvezhetem. Utoljára bár, de nem utolsó sorban, itt szeretnénk megköszönni Nt. Katona Jenőné, Ibolyának azt a hatalmas, önfeláldozó munkát, melyet a közel 50 személy fogadásánál és a 18 f o g á s o s szeretetvendégség elkészítésénél végzett. Bízva az isteni gondviselésben, reméljük, hogy egy erős magyar lelki, szellemi és szociális közösség fog kialakulni a lelkészcsalád munkássága eredményeként. Branch 501 - Metuchen, New Jersey A Visit to My Ancestral Village in Hungary Timar, Szabolcs megye, the birthplace of my mother and both sets of my grandparents, is a little town in the northeast comer of Hungary, not far from Tokaj. A vivid and lasting memory my 91-year-old mother still has of her Greek Catholic Church in Timar is the beautifully carved clusters of grapes entwining all four columns of the main altar. In our desire for her to be able to see it one more time, we engaged the services of Imre Harasztosi of Nyíregyháza, Hungary. Imre is a professional photographer who will travel to any destination in Hungary or the Ukraine for the purpose of taking photographs of any village and possibly locating new or known relatives, if so desired. My request for the 50 pictures, which the basic fee included, were of sights mother remembered. Extra pictures could be ordered in addition to the basic amount for a very minimal extra cost. The pictures I requested were of the Greek Catholic Church, the Tisza River, a sign showing the name of the town, the cemetery where my grandparents are buried and various other sights. There were church records, which Imre was able to obtain through the patient efforts of Father Mihály Rakaczky, pastor, that were from the 1901-1946 year span. He is the nephew of our pastor, the Very Rev. Basil Rakaczky of St. Michael’s Hungarian Byzantine Catholic Church in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. We were very pleased with Imre’s professional, prompt, and very courteous service. The pictures arrived by e-mail and soon after we received a compact disc of the photographs. A visit to Hungary through “Photography” is a memorable way to appreciate an Ancestral Village, for the previous and current generations.
