Page 22 TESTVÉRISÉG Bill and Danette Gioiello are the parents of Danya, Matthew, Madison, and Douglas. They live in Dayton, Ohio. Neil and Betty Gioiello of Warren, Ohio, are the proud grandparents of the seven new members. Neil and Betty are very close friends of Bill and Marge Nicholas. Our best wishes to the young children and their families. May God richly bless their lives. Marge Nicholas, Branch Manager Tel: 330-372-5183 Branch 259 - Los Angeles, California CONGRATULATIONS to Amanda Kathleen Carlson, who recently graduated from Carson City High School with a 3.93 average and honors in Four-Year Academic Honor, Academic Achievement and Honors in Speech and Debate. She was the Nevada State Champion in Extemporaneous Speech, and was qualified for national competition in 2002, and again in 2003. This year’s 10-day competition will be held in Atlanta in mid-June. Amanda was also involved in the Carson City High School Human Powered Vehicle Project, in which she and her two partners designed and built a vehicle that cruises at 40 mph without an engine from some fiberglass, bicycle parts and an amazing amount of engineering knowledge! In the summer of 2002, she competed in the International Human Powered Vehicle Competition in Brantford, Canada, and placed third in the women’s drag races. This is even more impressive because she (and her partners) were the only High School participants in this competition. For rest and relaxation, Amanda enjoys ballet and has been taking lessons since she was quite young. The photo was taken at her recent performance as a member of the Nevada Ballet Society in “Dance Project in Concert” at the historic Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City, Nevada. My very lovely, talented, and ambitious granddaughter will be attending University of Rochester, in Rochester, New York. She plans to study Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering and further studies in the Arts. CONGRATULATIONS to Réka Piroska Danko who received her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from the University of Nevada at Reno in June, 2003. Reka has excelled in her academic studies, has received numerous honors and awards, and already has much hands- on experience in her field. She plans to continue her education in medical school. In addition to her scholarly achievements, Reka has been a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America, a Varsity Ski Team racer, and has had gymnastic training. She enjoys music and singing, and has studied both piano and voice. She has participated in the Sierra Nevada Youth Chorale, in various choirs, and is often a vocal performer at private and community events. Margaret H. Saltzer, Branch Manager Tel: 775-883-7286 - mhszsa@earthlink.net Branch 300 - Washington, D.C. Mother’s Day Celebrated in Washington, D.C. Branch 300 and the Kossuth House Social Club jointly organized a successful picnic at Camp Olympic (Benedek Farm) on May 11, 2003, just outside Washington, D.C. The program started at noon with a religious service. Reverend Csaba Osvath gave the Mother’s Day sermon followed by Reverend Imre Bertalan’s remarks thanking Stephen and Zsoka Benedek for their hospitality. The Benedek Farm is a beautiful location for the annual get- together of the Branch under the leadership of Branch Manager Teri Pflum. After the service, the 4th Bátori József Scout Group performed traditional Hungarian dances to the joy of the audience. Shortly after the formal program, delicious Hungarian food was served, including pörkölt and türóscsusza. Such a delightful meal was not possible without the dedicated work of Kati Baranyi, who did all the cooking. Our appreciation to the mothers of the scout group for bringing delicious cakes, to Branch Treasurer Iren Vallario for tending the finances of the day; Home Office employees Erika Mason for baking and helping at the pastry table; Krisztina Vincze Fulwiler for conducting a raffle with The Scouts presenting their program, beautiful items to be won by lucky winners; Tibor Pflum for serving drinks and cleaning tables following the meal, and the friends who donated generously towards this event. As in previous years, we made a donation to the Hungarian Scouts, and this year we will sponsor a hole for the Bethlen Home Golf Tournament in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. Amanda Carlson
