President Miklós Szabó and Vice President Peter Churina welcomed the audience. Rose M. Gerzsenyi was the Toastmaster, and we applaud her for a job well done. The invocation was by Rev. Alexander Jalso of the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Homestead, Pennsylvania. The assembled guests recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang the National Anthem accompanied by Dorothy Krall. In his address, State Representative, the Hon. Marc Gergely, stated that he had introduced to the legislatures a Proclamation to designate March 15, 2003, as “American- Hungarian Day” in Pennsylvania. The Proclamation, adopted and signed by 80 State Representatives, was handed over by Mr. Gergely to Mr. Szabó. Mr. Gergely stated that he would reintroduce this Proclamation in 2004, and invite all Hungarians to attend this celebration in Harrisburg, the capital of Pennsylvania. Mr. Joseph Fabri, Director of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America (HRFA) and the Bethlen Home in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, recited the “Nemzeti dal” and extended warm greetings to all present. He also mentioned how important it was for Hungarians to be part of the HRFA. Judit and Noemi Borsay, daughters of Rev. Dr. Daniel and Judit Borsay, recited poems in Hungarian. We were very pleased to see both young ladies as well as many other young people participate in this event. Paul Martincsek and the 1956 Friendly Singers provided beautiful entertainment under the able direction of Ms. Krall. The Rev. Dr. Daniel Borsay of the Free Hungarian Reformed Church of McKeesport gave the Hungarian address. The audience appreciated his vast knowledge of the Hungarian history. The benediction was given by Rev. Levente Molnár of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Springdale, Pennsylvania. The celebration ended with the assembly singing “God Bless America” under the direction of Ms. Krall. A reception followed. We thank the members of the McKeesport Hungarian Social Club for putting together a nice program for the American-Hungarian community year after year.
