Page 14 TESTVÉRISÉG The Kossuth Club’s Fall Festival The weather could not make up its mind - should this day be a warm one, a leftover from the Summer, or a chilly one, serving as a reminder that Fall was inevitably here. On Saturday, October 5, 2002, the branches of western Pennsylvania, uniting their resources and efforts as the Kossuth Club, held their Fall Festival at the Bethlen Home in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. The preparation started weeks before. Under the able leadership of Clára Csikesz, Director of the Federation and the Bethlen Home, the branch managers, and friends got together to discuss the menu, the various chores, and the public relations work. The planning was well done and the results were successful. Although not many people drove to Ligonier, we still had a nice crowd and had the joy of greeting old friends, as well as bringing each other up-to-date about our family affairs, our health, our healings, and our aches. The menu consisted of a special stew prepared on an open fire (bogrács-gulyás), fried dough with garlic salt (lángos), grilled pork chops (lacipecsenye), potatoes with parsley, sauerkraut, bread, coffee with home-baked pastries. The Hungarian music revived fond memories and guided many back to the place where they were bom and raised. Those who attended not only enjoyed themselves, but also the delicious food, the price of which was included in the entrance fee. What a treat and what a deal! Our thanks and appreciation to those who worked so hard and diligently, namely: Baba Bertalan, Béla and Clára Csikesz, Olga Darnay, Joseph and Peggy Fabri, Rev. Alexander Jalso, Hanna Ligeti, Mary Nagy, Rev. Dr. Joseph Posta, Lajos and Edit Szép, and Juci Tusnak. We are grateful to the Bethlen Home for not only providing the place beset by Mother Nature’s beauty, but also for the staff members who assisted whenever they could. This day again proved that wherever hearts and hands unite for a worthwhile project, fratemalism, friendship, and fellowship can become a life sustaining and life enhancing power. Rev. Rev. Alexander Jalso A Kossuth szobor koszorúzása Iowában Szeptember 19-e volt Kossuth Lajos születésének 200- ik évfordulója. Ez alkalmat adott arra, hogy szervezzünk egy autóbusz kirándulást a Kossuth Lajos legújabb szobrához. Hónapok óta terveztük az utazás részleteit. Az East Chicagói Szentháromság Templom udvaráról indultunk 19-én reggel 6 órakor. Útba ejtettük a Chicagói Szent István Templomot, ahol még vettünk fel utasokat. Velünk volt Washingtonból Dózsa György, az Amerikai Magyar Református Egyesület Igazgatóságának elnöke és kedves felesége, Matilda. Régi magyar filmeket vetítettünk útközben. Jó kedvüen, viccelődve gyorsan fogytak a mérföldek az autóbusz kerekei alatt. Mire észrevettük, már Algonaban voltunk. Mr. Richard Schiek várt ránk, hogy még utoljára megbeszéljük a kosszorúzási ünnepség részleteit. Utunkat folytatva West Bend városban, egy új motelben töltöttük az éjszakát. Másnap, pénteken reggel 9 órakor Vas Atya és Skerl Atya szép szentmisével kezdték az ünnepi napot, melyen mindannyian részt vettünk. Az istentisztelet után indultunk vissza Algonaba a koszorúzásra, amelyre Minnesotaból is jöttek magyarok. Rövid ünnepség keretében történt meg a koszorúzás. A város és a megye vezető személyiségei szóltak a vendégekhez: a polgármester, a Megyei Tanács tagjai és elnöknője, a megye mérnöke, Iowa állam képviselője, valamint Mr. Thompson, a szobor alkotója. Magyar részről Dózsa György, Kovács Mária, Skerl Atya, majd Vas Atya is tartott beszédet a pódiumról a jelenlévőkhöz. Az ünnepség végén csoportunk nevében egy kis magyar zászlót adtam át a polgármesternek, amelyre a Kossuth
