Page 14 TESTVÉRISÉG BRANCH NEWS Branch 20 - Trenton - New Jersey On Friday, June 14, 2002, before Join Hands Day, I was helping to pick up a load of quilts and journals from Quilts for Kids. When I happened to mention that we would be working in New Brunswick the next day, Linda Arye, founder of Quilts for Kids, asked if we would be willing to deliver quilts and journals to the new Children’s Unit of Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick. We were not able to arrange it for the Saturday, but the following Tuesday, we (Deneice, Tamara and Krista Oroszvary) made the trip up and met Tonya Scales, a member of the Children’s Unit special programming staff. The 19 quilts we brought will be passed out to the children, concentrating on those who have been in the hospital the longest, or who are the neediest in other ways. The journals, which are blank books covered in fabric, will be passed out to older children who often need the release of writing about things they cannot talk about to anyone. With these gifts we were able to give ailing children a list that they need while they are in the hospital. If anyone is interested in sewing for a good cause, please contact me. We need your ideas, talents and help. In spite of the all-day rainy weather, no one complained! It was a wonderful experience to see how hard and enthusiastically our youth worked alongside the adults, who were just as thrilled to be part of this project. It is this shared enthusiasm of youth and adults working side by side on a meaningful project that makes Join Hands Day a very special event. After everyone worked up a good appetite, we enjoyed a very nice luncheon. Many thanks to our dedicated and hardworking volunteers! Our enthusiastic group is looking forward to our next Join Hands Day on Saturday, June 16, 2003.
