FRATERNITY Page 9 Hungarian Reformed Youth Camp 2002 The Hungarian Reformed Youth Camp this year was held at the Laurelville Mennonite Camp located near Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, from July 28 to August 3, 2002. A total of 50 youth from much of the Eastern and Midwestern United States attended, representing both Calvin Synod and Hungarian Reformed Church in America congregations. As has been true in the past, several youth from other denominations also attended. They had been “invited” to the Camp by one of our Reformed youth, and they continue to return to enjoy the Christian fellowship and the opportunity to strengthen then- faith in an atmosphere conducive to finding Christ. Thirty adults were also in attendance, many of them former campers who have gone through a Counselor Training course, individuals who take their vacations (paid and unpaid) because they have experienced Christ there, and find Camp an experience which continues to be meaningful to them, and want the youth of today to likewise have a positive experience. Two ministers were in attendance throughout the week, Bishop Louis Medgyesi and Rt. Rev. Koloman Ludwig, both from the Calvin Synod, as well as was Co-Camp Director Priscilla Hunyady from the HRCA. Our theme this year was “We Are More Than Conquerors in Christ” (Romans 8:37). The daily topics this year were: (Monday) “Conquering Bigotry” presented by Rev. Zoltán Sutto, (Tuesday) “Conquering Compromise” presented by Sandy Crumrine, who is active in Youth Ministry in the Ligonier Valley, (Wednesday) “Conquering False Religions”, presented by Rev. István Nyeste, (Thursday) “Conquering inadequacy, Guilt & Failure” presented by Rev. Leslie Martin, and (Friday) “Conquering Sin and Death” presented by Kathy Smith, a member of the Fairport Harbor Church who has been volunteer “Christian Activities Director” at the Camp for the past seventeen years. Each morning presentation was preceded by worship, and followed by a discussion period. Afternoon activities included Bible Study periods relating to the “Conquering” theme, “Team Challenges” with the campers competing on a “fun level” concerning Biblical themes, and organized sport activities. The evening schedule included workshops to help practical implementation of Christian teachings and values, and organized social activities. Special activities included the traditional Wednesday excursion to the Bethlen Home, where the youth learned of the Mission of the Home, and then interacted with residents through visitation, singing of songs, and work projects. Representatives of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America and the William Penn Association spoke to the youth about the importance of fratemalism, and each made a generous donation to the support of the Youth Camp. We sincerely appreciate their generosity. A trip was also made to the crash site of the hijacked United airliner “Flight 93” in Shanksville, PA, for those who wished to go. On Friday evening we held our regular “Closing Campfire Circle,” “Candlelight Procession,” and a closing Evening Worship Service, including Holy Communion. Twenty adults and youth came forward to rededicate themselves to Christ. Mr. William B. Puskas, Jr., Chief Financial Officer of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, presented the camp with a gift of $5,000. Rt. Rev.
