FRATERNITY Page 7 Groundbreaking for the Bethlen Home Nursing Care Center A large group of friends and supporters, with staff and residents from the Bethlen Home and the Ligonier Gardens, gathered for the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, September 3,2002. The new facility will be constructed on a hilltop with a beautiful view of the Ligonier Valley. The project should take about 18 months to complete. The Rev. Imre A. Bertalan, Executive Director of the Bethlen Home, welcomed those assembled at the site of the new facility. He said, “It is truly good to have all of you with us at a meaningful time in the American Hungarian Reformed Community. Just as a century ago, so many of our Churches were being built, so now we move into the next century of our existence here in America, breaking ground for this new center, which for American Hungarian Reformed people truly is at the heart of who we are here in this community.” The Rt. Rev. Louis Medgyesi, Bishop of the Calvin Synod Conference of the United Church of Christ, and the Rt. Rev. Sándor Forro, Bishop of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America, offered prayers and blessings in both English and Hungarian. A hymn was sung by Elizabeth Fabian of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Vancouver, B.C. Reverend Bertalan thanked a number of those present who helped make this project possible: Rev. Stefan M. Torok, President/CEO of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America; Mr. Anthony C. Beke, Chairman of the William Penn Association; Mr. Michael E. Walker, the Nursing Home Administrator; Mr. Steve Quick, representing Perkins Eastman Architects; a representative from Mistick Construction; Mr. Robert Unkovic of Berkowitz, Pierdhalski, Inc. handling the financing; and Sandra Mellon, serving as Honorary Chairperson for the Capital Campaign.
