away. The majority of our Churches contain second generation elderly persons. Bi-lingual service, at best, can maintain Hungarian church life and social life in America. The new generations are precious and fragile treasures to perpetuate our sacred heritage. My aim is to find new ways of evangelization, including preaching to postmodern audience, youth mission, inter-generational worship services, cherishing of cultural identities and faith commitment for our Hungarian communities in America. Together with my husband, Rev. László Lukacsi, we do our utmost to keep the Hungarian heritage alive in our local ministry at the First Hungarian United Church of Christ. ‘Hűség Istenhez, hűség önmagunkhoz, szerelteinkhez, és hűség magyar nemzetünkhöz’ - loyalty to God, to self, to loved ones, and to our Hungarian nation.” - this is my philosophy. I pray and study diligently that our Hungarian Churches and Fraternal Organizations might prosper and flourish for a long time, so help us God.”

Susan Malik, Member of Br. 31: “I would like to express my gratitude to the HRFA. It is a great honor to be considered for this scholarship. I would also like to thank Mrs. Emma Aros for the recommendation, and for helping me to keep my Hungarian heritage near to my heart.

I have just finished my first year of graduate school at the Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and am working towards a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science.

After obtaining my degree, I plan to move back to the area and work at a local public academic library. I look forward to helping individuals of my home community enrich their lives and their own education, both in and outside of the classroom.

I thank the HRFA and Mrs. Aros again for this chance to help further my own education.”

Alana McCann, Member of Br. 67: “Graduating from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Graphic Design has been a goal of mine for several years. I made a major step toward reaching this goal when I was accepted into Penn State’s Design Program this spring. My acceptance into this program is a result of two years of hard work. The past four semesters have been spent preparing a portfolio of work that I would later use for applying into the program. This portfolio is comprised of work that demonstrates the student’s understanding of design principles. But more importantly, this work focuses on the experimentation in the communication of ideas through the use of graphic design. With much anticipation, I submitted my portfolio for the spring design review. Great relief came with my acceptance in the program, along with the exciting chance to graduate from Penn State with a degree in Graphic Design.

Along with an interest in design, I have gained an interest in the field of photography.

This past year I had taken photography courses that had allowed me to understand the importance of incorporating this medium into design. I would like to continue exploring this area and further develop my photography skills.

This next year holds many exciting plans for me. In August I will begin my work in Penn State’s program - taking courses in graphic design and computer, magazine- design, packaging, photo-graphics, and color photography. I will complete this intense year with an internship at a design firm. This internship will be a wonderful way to gain experience and complete my studies at Penn State University.

Robert A. Molnár, Member of Br. 21: “For the past year I have attended the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, where I am a history major. I am pleased to report that I have been on the Dean’s List twice and became a member of Eta Sigma Phi, a national honorary for students of the Classical Languages.

I have kept very busy at Wooster by playing the euphonium in the Symphonic Band and Brass Ensemble, as well as trombone in the Marching Band. College has been an exciting and enlightening experience, and I am thankful to the Federation for their help and support.”
