FRATERNITY Page 23 Robin Lynn Miskolcze Receives Doctorate in English Robin Lynn Miskolcze, a former Ellwood City resident, received a doctorate of philosophy degree in English during graduation ceremonies at the University of Nebraska on May 6, 2000. A 1987 graduate of Lincoln High School, she earned a bachelor of arts degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. During her doctoral studies in 19th century literature and composition and rhetoric, she presented her research at national and international conferences in Washington, D.C., Nashville, San Antonio, San Diego, Columbus, Minneapolis, and New Orleans. She has published several articles in scholarly journals and a chapter from her dissertation titled, “Don’t Rock the Board: Women and Shipwreck Narratives in Early United States Cultures,” will be published in the fall of 2000. At the University of Nebraska and recently at the Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia, she taught courses in composition, introductory literature, 19th century American literature and African-American women writers. Following graduation, she and her husband, Dr. K.J. Peters, a professor of composition and rhetoric, will take up positions in the English department at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Robin is the daughter of Penny Miskolcze of Ellwood City and the late Robert Miskolcze and a granddaughter of Lillian Shingleton and Elizabeth Miskolcze, both of Ellwood City. Many relatives and friends joined her in Nebraska for a three-day celebration. We would like to congratulate Robin Lynn on her accomplishments. May the Lord bless her and guide her in all her future endeavors. We welcome our little members into our fraternal family and wish God’s richest blessings on their lives. Katherine Mischak, Branch Manager e-mail: katyika@aol.com 219-947-1825 Branch 182, Flint, Michigan On June 17th, young members of our branch joined with other youngsters of the community to take part in a National Volunteer Day sponsored by the National Fraternal Congress of America by cleaning the Heritage Church in Davidson, Michigan. The Home Office presented our branch with a donation for promoting and coordinating this activity. Each child who took part in this volunteer activity also received a special certificate of participating and a “Hug a Hungarian” T-shirt.
