To those who provided leadership and direction for the Flungarian Reformed Federation of America during the past four years. To those distinguished guests who honored us with their presence at this convention: • Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur • President of Toledo City Council Peter Ujvagi • Dr. August Molnár • Elizabeth Kiss • Dr. Julianna Puskas • And the official representatives of the various denominations and civic organizations To those who graciously extended their hospitality to the delegates and guests of the convention. We give special thanks to: • The Pastor, Elders and members of the Calvin United Church of Christ of Toledo, Ohio • The members of the HRFA branches 21 (Toledo) and 35 (Detroit) • The leaders of the Hungarian Club of Toledo • And to all who gave of their time, talent and substance to the causes of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America and who serve with integrity. We give thanks to the Almighty God for granting us the opportunity to celebrate and commemorate the historical milestones of: • 1,100 years ago: The founding of a home by our forefathers in the Carpathian Basin, Statehood and the acceptance of Christianity. • 104 years ago: The establishment of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America by dedicated pastors and lay leaders for the purpose of caring for their fellowmen and women in need. • 80 years ago: The organization of our charitable institution, the Bethlen Home, to care for orphans and the elderly. • 44 years ago: The valiant struggle of the Hungarian people who courageously took a stand against oppression, winning the respect and admiration of the world. We honor the memory of all who sacrificed their lives for that brief moment of freedom. We encourage the members of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America and our churches, communities and organizations to promote and participate in the goals and the plans adopted by the 36lh Quadrennial Convention. Furthermore, let us continue to labor unceasingly for the rights and welfare of our brethren living in the Carpathian Basin. Our historical legacy impels us to strive relentlessly to ensure the successful future of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America and to uphold the mission as to furnish its members with life insurance; to support a home for the aged known as the Bethlen Home of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America; and to promote social, fraternal and cultural activities among the members of the Hungarian American community. We solemnly declare as our highest goal to work for freedom, autonomy and prosperity among all peoples and all nations. Signed: Rev. Imre A. Bertalan, László Hamos and Rev. Szabolcs Kalman (Committee Members) V
